Obviously some will get more than 10 bales an acre but I put it at 10 to allow for bad years and other losses.
you are getting close with costings but you havnt allowed for in stack losses damadged bales needing re wrapping cost of marketing, dealing with folks takes time and we would struggle to make a ley last much more than 3 years to maintain production so reckon you could add another 3-4 £ now it is frightening but theres plenty of folks selling it or trying to for less and delivering the stuff

Right. Just had another go at doing costings and frightened myself. I must be adding something up wrong!
Difficult to split rent when a field is grazed then first cut then a small second cut then grazed again.
Plus reseeding and other costs should be taken into account.
Also I paid 187 for my fert this year and I don't spray or re seed so I think my costs are around 10. Oh my hay ground is either rent free or I pay between 3 and 5 a bale depending on who fertilises

Those are just stacked in the yard prices. No stack losses or any costs after that included!

Yes I know there are plenty of ways of reducing these costs. I have a few fields for free. No fertiliser. No spray.
But they are at one end of the scale. I have plenty of fields where these costs are normal.

I didn't use any fert for first cut, to reduce costs.
Got to compete with those who insist on selling round bales for £6.......
Make or break for me this year, if I don't make money I'm out.

Price varies between £140 a ton delivered (80x70) to horse sactuaries this is accidental hay and is a result of crap weather not what was being aimed for and £350 a ton this is what is aimed for and is sold to high value bloodstock establishments. This can be in 80x70s or conventional.
This year is nice as most Timothy will fall into near or top price and should do 4 ton an acre. However all that will have been on my drier even in a decent year and my customers will run checks for moulds , spores and thermophillic actimytes.
I need a strong price for good hay as with investment in kit I lose money on cheap hay.

Yours is the opposite end of the scale than most of us. Very good product, marketing, delivery and continuity of supply needs a premium price(y)
