i know this has been mentioned before but what solutions have people come up with to stop these crappy tyres from going flat. tried oko and no good. is there a solid wheel or a type of expansion foam thats any good?

Put new tyres on our tedder last spring. The old ones were perished, full of deep cracks and very susceptible to punctures. No punctures at all last year with the tough new ones and very cheap also, about the same cost of 3 new tines.

Having had the same problems as you, I have come to the conclusion there's three options 1) get loads of spare tyres and centres, so you always have spares ready, especially on a Saturday afternoon at 5:30pm when punctures usually happen, or 2) Get the tyres filled with solid foam, the main drawback being its heavy, the normal 6.50x6 size tyre will weigh an extra 10kg when filled with foam, or 3) Use thornguard type anti-puncture inserts in the tyres.

The cost of (2) and (3) is comparable I think, roughly £30-40 for the 6.50x6 type tyre. (2) obviously solves the problem entirely, but adds weight to the machine, (3) is a bit of an unknown quantity as to the efficiency. Which leaves (1), which works, but costs a fair bit in puncture repairs, new tubes, and even tyres if a wheel runs flat unnoticed for a while.

At the moment I'm on option (1), I'm still undecided as to whether to try either of the others.......:scratchhead::scratchhead:

these tyres vary from batch to batch, when we had our new turner it had puntures from day 1.
eventually found some better tyres and rarly get a flat now. no real help at all from maker of turner or tyres.
Did a tread on the old bff but nobody else would admit to problems, yet i found 3 other machines from the same batch
locally and all had tyre problems to start with

can these tyres not work tubeless? plug any holes easy from outside, keep wheel on, also tyres with air are a form of suspention, solid wheels bound to be hard on impliment, unless lowered carefully

you should be using a 10 ply tire

I have a spare on the rake all the time & we might get 1 or 2 punctures a season.

The down side to solid fill etc is that they may not offer as much cushioning effect??

Thank you, this has reminded me to order some more green slime !!
1250mls is £10 delivered from fleabay. Thats a fiver per tyre!
Like already said a spare is also handy too.

Puncturesafe is the stuff, cheaper off fleabay. It will seal some pretty big holes without you even noticing. I have it in the quad and all ATV tyres.(y)

Air Seal Products do stuff but I forget the name, they exhibit at cereals and it's the stuff in the red buckets.
It makes your eyes water when you here the price but as soon as you use it you realise it's worth it's weight in gold. Much better than any of the other stuff.

I have a bucket of the stuff sat in the workshop for when my new tedder arrives! Tried foam filling with industrial foam, like forklift tyres. makes the tyres too heavy and not enough 'give' so they split after about 2 seasons. The last 2 years we have carried a spare on the rake and tedder and a can of Holts Tyre Seal in the cab. Works well for minor punctures if you spot it before it goes totally flat.

I fitted the 4 tyres on a tedder a few years ago and the depth wheel on the plough about 10 years ago with thornguards/ nailguards (depends on wheel size as to which you use). Since fitting there has been 1 puncture on the tedder and 1 on the plough both caused by the guard pinching the tube. Tip- if buying make sure to order french chalk and use plenty of it!
