Healthy to dead in two hours

Had a couple of calves die the last two weeks. One minute healthy the next dead. Good strong healthy calves. They blow up in the gut and drop dead. Any ideas. Calves are indoors. Straw bales they are being bedded on are not best. Any ideas?

Always wondered why everything I wrote never made sense.

I was thinking something clostridial. Could you get blackleg indoors? Any precautions I should take or just put it down to bad luck

Years ago we had straw with a lot of soil in that we bedded calves on,lost a calf with blackleg, vet confirmed,no history previously on the farm.

Straw is not from our farm. Might use some straw off a different patch of ground to be on the safe side then.

I'd go with clostridial bloat. Many more clostridial diseases than blackleg, clostridials include tetanus and botulism!!! Check with vet whether Bravoxin or similar would help - very cheap.

It was dead before I noticed it never mind treated it. Don't normally miss much, these are my first deaths in 500 or so, so I'm annoyed. How would you administer antibiotics if you see one early? Orally or in the vein.
