The nations health is going downhill shockingly fast! There will be cases where the parents the children and the grandchildren share their last weeks in the same nursing home! Fizzy soft drinks and hight sugar items should be licenced and only sold to over 18s. Children should be regularly weighed in schools and those on an unhealthy growth curve should be identifed early, parents advised and assisted and those who allow their children to continue on the curve to become significantly overweight should be held legally responsible. I don't like a nanny state but it seems too many people are unwilling or unable to make inteligent choices themselves...
Ive raised this before. Parents have their heads in the sheds on this. My MIL refuses to accept that my niece of 4 is overweight (huge belly and folds of fat on a petite frame)! She thinks food is for giving and seeing that both my husband and SIL were fat as children talk about being blinded (husband is now so obsessed its kind of ruined his mind and has stretch marks WTF?) Endless gratification with utter carby grainy foods. Endless need to feed to give yourself happiness is cruel and a terrible way to start life. Being overweight brings so many other minor aliments that just dont get talked about - poor posture, easy leg breakages, bowel aliments, head aches, stomach acid, lose skin, stretch marks, low esteem, bullying endless issues that I as a parent dont want o put on my childs head.

But the medical sector just dont say your child is obese I would like to see them drop to xyz by 6 months. Far too much dancing around the 'must be more active' For Gods sake for a child to lose the calorie and fat intake of the biscuit/cereal/bread/chocolate culture means that child would need to workout all day!

The government ought to be encouraging us to live a happy but unhealthy lifestyle. That might counter some of the problems associated with old age! Who wants to live for ever? Why should the young pay for indefinite care for the aged?

How about the NHS issuing free drugs (hard drugs and soft drugs, not medication as they do that already) and alcohol of choice to old age pensioners, on demand, and grant aid establishments like Cynthia Payne's? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_Payne).

Nobody wants to live forever but who wants to die? I would like to think that most old folk who have lived a healthy livestyle have fewer problems and require much less care in their later years than others who die younger but require much more medical intervention during there life due to poor lifestyle choices. I would rather try live a happy and healthy lifestyle though I admit I am often failing on both accounts.

reduces mine by seven(y)
Same here. :)
My heart age is 4 years older than my real age (55/59) but I went in for a heart check only last week so I know my cholesterol and BP. The doctor asked many more questions than this survey, such as drinking habits, and she said my weight was fine, I just have more muscle than your average sedentary worker. I should live til I'm 80

My friends the NHS link is obviously simplistic - it's intention is to get you thinking, please do.

Yesterday I went into hospital to have an Angiogram, where a catheter is inserted into an artery in the groin and guided to the heart, whilst I was awake, to inject dye for an x-ray as part of my journey towards heart surgery (I have a congenital valve defect that was detected by accident by my wife, a doctor, 9 years ago - it has been regularly monitored). The procedure was carried out by a wonderful team of people at Llanelli Hospital here in Wales; there were probably 6 or 7 at the procedure and another 3 or 4 on the ward. The whole team from the Consultant and Registrar to the nurses were women which I thought was the best example of 'girl power' you could have.

4 hours afterwards I was allowed home.

It is in fact only about 2 weeks since I was told I now need to have heart surgery since then I've had this done yesterday and will be having a CT scan on Monday. This, for any overseas friends, is all free, carried out to world class standards in one of the most cost effective health care systems in the world. Sure an underfunded NHS can be criticised and sure a very small number of mistakes are made but when you are at the sharp end and bump up against people who have the skills and the care to push a catheter towards your heart you know that these are the people we should be championing, not politicians, bankers and celebrities.

The fact that this and a potential live saving valve replacement are possible is down to pure science, to the thousands of men and women who have dedicated years of their lives to science and medicine. It has nothing to do with what 'you think, what the man in the pub thinks, what some politician says, what some snake oil salesman says, what some alternative therapist says, what the priest thinks, what uncle Tom Cobley and all thinks'. My continuing survival depends on cold, hard, exhausting science and the dedication of skilful, caring staff.

So don't listen to the bulls**t or make assumptions, listen to the people who really know and start to look after your heart, it's the only one you have.
