Heat Detection Systems

Currently looking at Heat Detection systems.

Options are Sensetime, Herd Insights or Nedap.

What’s people’s experience of them or recommendations for another system.

Milking all year round.
Reason for installation is that I also work off farm and not overly confident in relief Milkers picking heats when I’m not there.

Thanks in advance.

Herd insights here working brilliant, was a fairly simple decision for me as they offered a full 5 year warranty on every collar and replaceable batterys, rather than £100 collars being a throw away item after 5 years when they have gone dead

I was looking at cow alert, it seems pretty good and they offer a 5 year lease deal instead of outright purchase. Hoping to get it in the future and link it up with a saber sort gate but we need to do some building work to get it all in.

Big draw to Sensetime is the 5 year 100% warranty on the collars. They also do eartag option which is a good bit cheaper but only offer 2 1/2 year warranty on these.
Can start on heat only and upgrade to health at any time (for a cost!!).
They claim collar tags last minimum of 8 years and ear tag battery minimum of 5 years.

Herd Insight warranty only 3years on batteries at 100%, 40% year 4 and 20% year 5.
Benefit over others is that the batteries can be changed.
All other hardware/items 100% warranty for 5 years.
The base station needs line of sight so will only collect the information morning and evening at Milking time.
There collar does heat and health. Same cost.

NEDAP most expensive option and but claim batteries will last minimum of 10years.
But only offer 100% warranty for 3 years and reduced warranty for year 4 and 5. If they are so confident on battery life can’t understand why they won’t do 100% warranty for the 5 years.
If you start with Heat only no option to upgrade to Health at a later date.
So if you want Health you have to go with more expensive collar at the start.

Any updates?
We have silentherdsman sold by nmr and afi milk the system is very good at both heat detection and rumination. But the backup is none exciting and we now have 15% of the collars gone wrong in 18 months. A day of reckoning is fast approaching

Save starting a new thread.
Hit me with what your using and negative and positives.
Needs to be a tag or bolus.
Cost?
And key key key 🔑 will it increase or decrease current business profitability?

Use cogent at the moment, works well but... Would love to serve 2x day
Will be running 12-14 bulls this year too. Could we do away with them? Those hard to catch cows, is the bull the only answer?
Will be near 30k tied up in bulls, and 4 in and out per year has a cost.

To be fair, will probably stick with what we know, but vet was on farm pd before Christmas, and was very impressed with different systems his clients are using, but if we will not save any money/make any more then whats the point?

But logistically in the 21st century i can "see" every cow from my phone.
We don't get many problems with cows because we don't ask too much of them, but its another set of eyes.

I think nedap would be the most used collar as it’s rebranded by lots of people. I think tag or bolus narrows your options a lot. There is huge amounts of data available through them but if your not in a position to utilise the data then a degree of the benefit is lost. Ie if your self feeding and there is rumination problems your limited on your adjustment ability

I've no intrest in the feed side of it. We have what we have and that's it. Its for heat detection really.

Stick to cogent or rms and the bulls,The tags and collars wont give you better conception rates.
