Heat detection systems

I have had Fullwood pedometers since 2002 and wouldn't bee without them.
I also have Track A Cow from DairyMac for my maiden heifers which works of an Ariel near there shed and reads every 5 minutes rather than the Fullwood system that only reads as they walk out of the parlour. We do very little specific watching cows for heat and rely almost totally on the pedometers.

Im getting good results from using the estrotect stickers. Used them heavily this summer and find them easy enough to see as they walk into the parlour.
I tried a 30 collar system in demo last year. Seems expensive for something that’s basically gonna be scrap in a few years time.
I can get my stickers at less than a £1 each.
I like simple.

Was at a friends the other day, admittedly they are beef, but I really liked their system. I think it was from moocall. Had a teaser bull with a collar and antenna and he picked up the numbers of the cows he was hanging around. They were finding it very good.

Poor chap asked about heat detection systems and got a hammering. Classic. :D:ROFLMAO:

Ok.
We run heat time on our heifers and whatever the GEA system is called on the cows. Basically £70 per collar all in but does include aerial, computer stuff and install although you have to build the collars.
Serve everything to the collars and have more than acceptable preg rates

MooMonitors are fantastic, the depth of information they offer besides just heat detection is amazing. Very accurate, very reliable. I haven't seen anything to compare them against

I love it when people say these collars are amazing but I’ve yet to find anyone who will actually show me some good solid data, that’s the problem with all these companies no one ever shows you how there really performing on farm

What sort of results are you achieving with the collars? I have thought about getting some sort of system but I don’t think I will see a return on the investment.

We have basic pedometers from Nedap, really like them but if I was looking today I would look closely at Cow Manager.

In any batch of heifers, 6 ex 10 will hold to first serve, 2 to second, 1 to 3rd and then the last one up to a max of 5 then burgers. Sexed semen serves 1 & 2, normal 3, beef 4 on
Cows would be similar or maybe 5.5 on 1st but most are got by 2nd

If you want rumination, it adds about another £20-30.
Suits us because we can input cows to be served before morning milking and they will be separated out by the end (all being well)
