Heating oil tank leak.

I have 2 small cracks about halfway up an 1800 ltr plastic oil tank. To remove and replace it will cost £3500. Already drained tank to below the cracks.
Is this stuff any good to repair it or do I need a new tank.

Its fkd but £3500 simply to change for a new tank? is someone lifting your leg or do you need to relocate to comply with newer buildng regs as will be the case with 2 of ours when they expire... :scratchhead:
What size tank?

Pity your not in east anglian....

Yes, on the meeting new regs. Alot of the ones I help fit are as much for new location as tank being f#cked.

I have a feeling, that if there is a leak, the cost of digging up the contaminated soil and sending it to landfill (if reported!) are so high, that it would probably be better to bite the bullet now rather than risk that cost, plus the potential cost of losing a tank of oil as well.
Is that what we're supposed to do with contaminated soil??

I’d get a new tank. Had similar with a little 600l tank and as regs had changed we were (paying a qualified man to do it) going to either move the tank or remove a window and frame from the garage and block up.

replaced it like for like myself.

edit to add: replace it with steel if poss.

even bigger bill if the oil soaks under your house, or even bigger again if it seeps under neighbors house, change the tank.
Our neighbour had this issue. A pipe leaked and fuel got under the house. Followed along pipelines and any other place it could get.
The house was nearly getting demolished. The owner wished it had in the end after all floors were removed. Footings removed and then underpinned. All plaster removed and lots of internal brickwork. Went on for many months.

does any one know if painting the tank (before it gets that bad) would extend its life and protect the plastic? If someone has experience of this what type of paint did you use?
Wont make any difference, those tanks only have a 1year guarantee now, have seen loads split over the years, temperature differences cause the splits, if you need to have a tank outside, get a bunded one.
