@Hilly on the RPW website we can click on interactive map then click on the field to get it's area to show up. If it's not your field you have to draw a line around the perimiter to show the area. Surely you can do this where you are too?

If you can't measure one of the angles measure one of the diagonals.
Easiest way is to convert everything into triangles, it's how much of the original Ordinance Survey was done.

You still can't calculate the area of an irregular quadrilateral with just the external measurements and without an internal angle. Mathematically it can't be done. The perimeter length of an irregular shape does not determine its internal area.

I cant get on rpa at the moment and its slow and useless the google one is easy and bang on as have measured other fileds i know and its spot on, i find all government web sites crap do others ?

Exactly. If you "squashed" it one way or the other it would be much smaller
