Hedge cutter controls

Is there any reason why I should not run hedger functions off tractor spools?

Got an old bomford with cable controls and just wondered about extending pipes and plugging in to tractor spools. Could even work it off joystick if I put it on new tractor. Got four double acting spools on tractors.

The cable controls are the same side as the head ,using the tractor spools ,would you struggle to watch the head and operate the tractor spools on the opposite side
Spools are on tractor armrest on one and others are within easy reach on others.

Most Bomfords I worked on over the years had restrictions built into the kontact to slow down the lifting ram and the dipper ram on the down stroke.................................................................

Think your problem will be that when cutting on the left, your left hand is needed to operate the spools while right hand steers and does gears. that allows you to twist to the left easily to watch the head. If the left hand is steering I don't think you will be comfortable looking left. The tractor should be fine to power the arm, you don't need much flow. I am in the process of chucking off the electric bang bang rubbish controls of my bomford to fit a normal loader joystick with electric diverters for other two functions. i'll let you know how it works..

I have a loader joystick and a spool block , plus a divertor valve , all piped into a bomford hawk hedge cutter. Works well, have used same controlls for 7 years. Just adjust tractor spool speed right down.

Something maybe to think about, some tractors (Case IH MX at least) have No:1 spool takes priority & will even rob oil from the other spools if used together, don't know if any other tractors are setup the same.

I think most tractors the 1st spool is priority spool
Hence we normally run the post knocker in the 2nd spool then the hydraulic arms don’t lag

If I use the rake on the MX I run it in 2 & 3. If I was doing it full time I would do the same but swap 1 & 3 cables round, would be 1 & 2 in the cab then.
