Hedge cutting anyone?

I like most people abide by rules but why is it that farmers aren’t allowed to hedges until September but my local council are cutting hedges here there and everywhere and not for safety reasons. Surely it should one rule for everyone!

Because you sign a piece of paper agreeing not to in return for BPS cash. If ELMS turns out to be the crock of proverbial it looks like right now then in a few years time you'll be free to cut yours whenever you like too, just like the council, subject to the national law of the land on not disturbing any nesting birds.

Is it that you want to cut your hedges? If so, why would you if it is still bird nesting season?

Or is it just that it seems unfair? Which I would agree with. They should just trim hedges and verges where there is a safety issue and then tidy up at the end of the season, just like farmers

Even had Conservation group from Cardiff, clearing stream, hacking areas out and laying hedges in April and May around here, when ALL countryside folk know that this is the nesting period and leave well alone???
If you did it though YOU be prosecuted. 😡

I doubt ‘Conservation’ groups want to work outside in the winter. Rather more pleasant being smug about saving the planet when it is warmer in April and May.

What birds nest this late?
The only nesting birds I’ve seen in 30 odd years hedge cutting are pigeons, so we let them nest and shoot them!
