Hedge Cutting Fuel Per Hour

And that's 70hp John and the OP asking re a 200 HP tractor. My 70 HP head is going take a little more power than a 30hp bomford head

Sharp flails save fuel as well.

Given how it can make the 14 bark when your on 3 year growth, id say it takes more than 30hp to drive it. More like 50hp at a guess

Got to have it in bits this week, have finally found a Belt driven MW head with the right fittings on, as the current direct drive LW head has reached the end of its lifespan when it comes to our workload.

So next week will be devoted to swapping heads, brackets and flails, fit our LW head to the new mower and that will be sold to my mate who is going to replace his medieval RH cut belt driven Fisher Humphries rig with something a bit more safer and modern

I found on the verge mowing that running in 540E/1000 used a lot more fuel than running at 540, plus it boiled the hedgecutters oil, on a pa52E on a JD 6420 and spearhead 565 highway on a Renault ares 100 hp or whatever it was. When we ran at 540 and went at a bit faster pace even, we never boiled hedgecutters oil, we got through the work quicker too. That was on 1st cut, second cut, unless wet would go fine for fuel / boiling on 540E/1000

What pto speed do you run your 5155 at? I run my Rousseau on 1000 just to get slower speed for cable control. I reckon I get about 6L an hour at that. I don't know if my new machine will work with it in 1000 as Eco, but it's got faster hydraulics and motion control so I'm hoping to run in 540 with revs backed off to 2000. The 6310 is pretty frugal on juice, the biggest fuel fright I've had is post knocking, it sups it at a fair pace at that job @ about 15-1700rpm. However it's amazing on juice flat out on a power Harrow compared to equivalent Massey and Same.

Run on 540eco

Doesnt make sence if the pto is turning at 540rpm at whatever engine speed

We tried running at 540 full engine revs once, never again

apart from more wear on the tractors clutch, more fuel used, it also gave problems with the hedger

When your running in a 1000 at tickover, any blockage or heavy load on the hedger will tend to pull the engine revs down a bit before the relief valve blows on the trimmer,

running at 540, soon as the head blocks, the releif valve flys open at full pressure, or a pipe blows off

we run at 1000 now, saves fuel, saves wear, saves breakdowns

Is yours still down the road russ? I was having a perv at her Xmas time[emoji851]

Yeah still there just waiting on a few bits n bats, what did u think? I'm stil not sure sure about a few things but time will tell

My 6330 is the thirstiest tractor I've ever had on the trimmer, 9 litres/hour 540e!! Thinking of changing for a premium, I think the 4 valve engines are more economical

Do you set your PTO revs via the cruise controller? They seam to be lighter on fuel if you do
