Hedgecutter problem.

Unfortunately my Bomford hedgecutter seems to have blown the seal out on the front of the main hydraulic pump.

It doesn't seem to have either an internal or external retaining lip for the seal, which seems strange. I'm not sure if the pump has got a problem to blow the seal, or I can just fix it back in and carry on, it fair gushes oil out when running now though. Can anyone help?

Is there a groove for a circlip to hold it in?
Loctite will hold a seal in provided its oil free when you do it!
Some crank seals are just an interference fit the same as that.

Take the seal to your local bearing factor and match it up.
Don't go paying Bomford prices!!!!!!!!

Try a new seal but there must be a reason it blew it out. Is the case drain blocked or restricted? It should be free return back to tank through one route or another.

Had that problem,your seal will have blown in the pump and filled the gearbox full of oil

Just thought main seal could have gone on pump and its pressurising gearbox!!

Many thanks for the replies, a blown the main pump seal fits the symptoms perfectly. I'll pull her apart today.

I was cutting back some fairly thick overgrown stuff and had just fitted a new set of belts on the cutter head, I guess that explains why it went.

You need to have the hydraulic pump inspected as I suspect the main shaft has blown causing excessive pressure inside the gear box causing the shaft seal to pop out.
