1.5 M head saved me lots of time, sides can be done in one hit
don't worry to much about getting it perfect as it will look fine by next year

The first two days are ok after that it’s massively boring, tend to find do the road ones first while I’m not bored then up the speed in the fields.i find flicking YouTube on all day passes the boredom and have it playing through the radio as for speeding the job sharpening it everyday cut the hedges while still softish, and you can keep the speed up

Is there any benefit in running a 1.5m header when getting paid by the hour?
Not worth the expense if can't charge more.
1.5 metre head saves 2 hours a day of a 14 hour day, I wouldn’t go to a 1.2m head after running a 1.5, why would you want a job to take longer? It does use slightly more diesel, as for charging, charge what you need not what everybody else charges.

Why not a 2m or 2.4m medium duty multi blade rotary head on 2 year growth, flail only needed really on heavier growth. Big rotary would be far quicker.

I run a 1.2 head and do about a week a year for myself.
I was just asking ;)

Hedgecutting biannually is even more time consuming.
1.5 metre head, sharp flails, and get up early.
4 months solid? How many hours we talking? Over 1000 on one farm?
I have a few 100 hour + farms to cut that are 1000 acre+
As long as you keep the top of the hedge down you can cut the sides every 2 or 3 years and still only takes one pass,

I have wondered if using Rtk gps to set line to drive set the distance to cut and set the line
Once set may then be possible to drive faster the operator not having to steer and control the hedger
1.5 m head also may help

The other option would a bigger hedger with 2 1.5 m flails so only one pass is needed
Tractors are big enough now days

I regularly use GPS for hedge trimming just set up an AB curve and it makes life a lot easier especially when trimming three years worth of growth.
