Hedgerow coppicing and Hedgerow gapping up

With the above, say you have a 100m hedge that has widely spaced overstood stems such that laying isnt possible. These might be 4m apart, but still constitute a hedgerow (?). In submitting an application for a Hedgerow and Boundaries scheme, do you state the metreage of hedge to coppice as the full 100m?
What length of hedgerow does one state as requiring 'gapping up'? The full amount? Should I carefully measure the amount of length taken up with coppiced stools and deduct that from the 100m?

Thanks

Over the border from you, we apply on the RPW website and use the interactive maps to identify the stretch of hedge to be coppiced and replanted. Once your plan has been accepted you'll need to take some geo tagged pics on an iphone and store them for when you've completed the scheme. Take more pics of completed job and upload them all with your claim.

If it were me, I'd put the whole length in for coppicing, as the stems could be in the way of gapping up. And then gapping up meterage for what you think you'll need. But iv al depends on the hedge I suppose.

Have been doing similar under one scheme or another, coppice full length and then estimate the length of replanting it would be, if it was a new hedge. maybe half total length?

If you claim on the full length for gapping you, make sure you’ve planted the full length. We got an inspection last year and the inspector measured the unplanted bits and knocked them off the total length.

We’ve got a hedge to gap up, but looking at it now it really wants coppicing first. I only applied to gap it, will it be ok to coppice it first and then gap it up?

Your fine to coppice the hedge. Just missed out on RPA contributing towards doing it.

I seem to remember the Glastir rules in Wales specified a minimum proportion of ‘gaps’ for the whole hedge to apply. Iirc it was something like 10%? I did one length on that basis.
Not a great payment rate anyway, but did mean you could get double fencing funded.
