and in 5 years time the suckers a 5 m out into the field, in 20 years time the hedge is 12m into the field.I don`t understand why you dislike Blackthorn? We have used it as at about 5% in mainly hawthorn hedge plantings and it is a little bit different, flowers earlier and is just a nice addition to the mix.
Are you sure that it is blackthorn then, mine spreads terribly.There is mature Blackthorn in old hedgerows in lots of places and I don`t think i really seen that happen
Blackthorn is not as hardy as hawthorn, over 1000' the Blackthorn hardly grows (or dies out), where as the Quickthorn does continue to grow (if slowly!).I don`t understand why you dislike Blackthorn?
