She's in calf to a lim bull (Lodge Hamlet). His gestation is 285 days. This heifer is now 294 days and still no calf. There is no mistake with her due date as she was only a.i.'d once (on 1st May).

Had a heifer calve to Lodge Hamlet last week at 287 days (also only a.i.'d once on the 1st May!)

Our heifer went 294 days here last year to same bull as her mother. Mother (4th calfer) went 277 days. Other cow (2nd calfer) went 290 days to same bull. I believe that a late calf is more likely to be a bull though, which may suit you?
Thanks for the info. Nae I'd prefer a heifer calf every time. Like you I'm convinced it'll be a bull calf. Last weeks calf, which was born much closer to time, was a heifer calf.

She looks like she has bagged up nicely and doesn't ( from the pic) look as if she is uncomfortable or stressed, let her be to get on with it ( keeping an eye but not obviously so), always think they hold them in if they think you are watching:sneaky::LOL:

With humans there is a risk the placenta will break down when you are overdue (hence they induce if you go 2 weeks over due date).

I'm just curious, is this the same with cattle? Is there a higher risk of calf stillborns over gestation time?
