Next door bought a new tank and the compressor failed at 18mth old,new doesn’t always mean reliability, all my tanks have been 2nd hand, they owe me nothing.

Where you need new or a good dealer is when you don’t know how to wire a plug or solve a single problem,I’ve just put 10m litres through my parlour and it’s never seen a dealer or fitter.
You need a good dealer to get parts off do you think threre going to call out to you on sunday morning and fit a compressor or vaccum pump or give you one yourself to fit if you never dealt with them before.

What parts?

I’ve westfalia equipment you don’t need a dealer, built my 32/64 myself with help to concrete.

I’ve a spare milk pump, spare vac pump, power supplies etc... mostly bought online.

I won’t be ringing anyone.

Unlike us, who, although can wire a plug and repair some basic bit on the parlour, need (and fortunately have) a good dealer! It amazes me how you found time to do this, (which I remember from some time ago).

I don’t know how I did it!

Wiring was the biggest job,32 milk meters,32 pulsators,gates,3 vac pumps,2 milk pumps,3 water heaters,22 strip lights etc and we still managed to site the parlour in the same place as our old one while still milking 190 cows at the time.

It all depends on the costs involved, it's pointless spending 10k or more installing a 2.5k parlour but if you're doing it yourself at say 500 the "project" cost has gone from 12.5k to 3k it should be represented as a% of the project.
Machinery is the same if you can stand the down time and repair yourself cheaply old tackle is ok but if you're paying a mechanic or can't stand down time, it's better to pay the finance rather than the repair. Bills.

Your right, at the start I got a quote of €6,500 to install a 10 unit direct to line parlour including all equipment. The other side of that is Dairymaster quoted me 28K to install a second hand 10 unit with new vacuum and milk pump.

Id rather do it myself, at least if it breaks you have a chance of repairing it.

I’ve got straight rails and sometimes end up with an extra cow in the row. Is cranked better?
Yes,better for cow positioning.
I had straight rumprail in my old parlour, the trough dividers kept them in place, sequential bailing would be best.

Hi @Tim G

How's all the work progressing @BobbySusie ?

Hi Tim, I have the parlour up and running. I started the installation on the 26th of December and we turned it on, on New years day. The parlour wasn't in as good a condition as i thought, I had to replace the diaphragms on the pump, and loads of other bits, its working great now, I'm training the heifers at the minute.

I have loads of small bits and pieces around the yard still to do, but nothing will stop milking, if if the whole place looks at bit DIY. Calving starts in a few days so I'm going to be busy.
What weight are your jerseys, and what yields and solids are you getting.

There is some things which should be bought new a parlour and bulk tank is one by the time you buy secondhand and pay to get installed have repairs on old equipment youd be far better of buying new from day one
My second hand tank washer worked out well dear compared to a new one with repairs.

Great work, looking forward to seeing some pictures on here when you start milking them.
Id estimate our cows at 500kg, but not weighed one to know. Vet seemed to agree with me the other day. Yield wise at the moment we are getting just over 10 litres as an average, but that includes 2 heifers and two cows who are shortly going to be dried off, they are not really being pushed, just some dairy pencils at milking and a bale of grass silage in a ring feeder. Looking forward to getting milking with our jars and being able to do some basic yield recording. Last sample tested was 6.48% bf, 3.92% protein.
