Helicopter landing zone

been approached by a national company looking looking to do pleasure flights locally.

They want to rent some space to land, collect client and fly them off for an hr or so, return, fuel up, replace clients and go again.

It's early days but the seem to be suggesting about £200 a day for this. I don't think I need go supply them with anything other than grass. They need several hundred meters clear in front so if it goes belly up on take off they can ditch safely.

What do I need to look out for other than insurance. Anything to watch out for?

Noise will be your issues if you are near people

A landing fee is typically £10-20 a time at a small airfield so at £200/day you are good value for them

Where will clients park ? Cars maybe more the issue than the helicopter

Will they have fuel bowser on site ? These things drink so if flying all day I would suspect they will have

Might be worth you checking they have commercial licence rating, not that it’s your problem really but best not to be involved in any way with it if not legal etc

Noise is ok, my tenants will be ok, no one else about.

Yes, bowser and fire truck on standby at all times

It's early days but their website covers most counties in the U.K. so I would be surprised if they don't have all the paper work but will check.

One of my tenants is into to aviation, I will ask them.

Yes, cars I believe will be parking so will need space for several in one go.

May have to wing it with planning, less than 28 days officer...

I would suspect your local planning office will be very interested if it is a business idea. Noise, wires, fuel hazards, pollution risk, change of use, MoD, air traffic control.
Apart from those should be fine

Thanks both, I've been pondering, they are coming out next week.

The 28 day rule should keep planners at bay.
Fuel and fire is served by a pick up with 80 litres of foam and a fuel bowser which I am told they use across the country and complies
Clients wait in their car until ready so no need for a building
No wires, mod or similar to worry about.
HSE and Risk assement will all be down to them, just need to make sure the contract specifies this!

My neighbours run a few helicopters from nearby. It's their own site. Generally my cattle are so used to the noise it's not a problem but I do have the direct line to Middle Wallop air traffic control just in case. Apache's are fairly quiet. But a Chinook going over at less than 500 feet makes my house shake. :D
