My issue is the amber light for the hydraulic filter will not shut off even though I’ve changed fluid and filter. Wondering if the switch is faulty , as I have replaced the wire to the switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the wiring damaged, to cause earthing out? Highly likely given the age of these tractors now.

It is normal for this light never to go off, not sure why it was ever put on the tractor. If you work it really hard you may get ot to turn off or just leave it in constant pumping which should

Now Then..
You say you have changed the fluid??
What have you put in it??
If I remember correctly, those tractors had a warning sticker to say "If the lift hasn't gone out after 10 minutes, seek help"
Are you running it for more than 10 minutes??

I changed the filter and fluid yesterday. I ran it for half a hour or so. Disconnected the wire to the hydraulic vacuum switch and light stays on. 10W-30 oil

Not sure that’s the right oil? Should be TOU (tractor oil universal)
I remember back in the late sixties when we had a fleet of new DB’s (1200 & 4 990’s) that the yellow light came on when the tractor started, and wouldn’t go out until everything had warmed up.

Had a 1210 and had similar experiences that turned out to be a bad earth. Try replacing your earth with a lead direct to the battery negative terminal. If it starts behaving itself then you know the earth is the problem and you can start trying to check the earth points

This is the switch I removed to clean and make sure it wasn’t blocked. I put it back in place. So does the earth lead connect to the spade terminal on the switch ? This is where I’m having trouble understanding where does the switch get the positive power?

The positive power comes from the ignition switch, same as the oil warning light and the alternator warning light.

The Hydraulic switch is a vacuum switch essentially, to make it work when you first turn the key it gets it's earth from the alternator warning light, this there to show the light is working, there's a diode in circuit so once the alternator starts charging both red and yellow should go out together, the diode is to stop the red light coming on if there's a fault with the hydraulics.

You can't really test that switch without creating a vacuum , replacement is the usual method.

In very cold weather it can take a while for the yellow light to go off, but as above around 30 mins I think, not too bad with the Hydrashift gearbox, it's gets the oil warmed up quicker.

Where could i buy this switch, if I need to replace it? I'm in Ontario, Canada
New replacement switches aren't available, unless you manage to find a new, old stock one. You could buy a second hand one but it might not be any better than what you've got.
If the oil and filter is clean and the hydraulics are working I'd ignore the orange light, I've seen oil and filters in an awful state and the light didn't come on so I'm not sure how accurate it all is.

I never had any explanation from any engineer the importance of this lamp

Agreed -just one of the DB idiosyncrasies. Take the bulb out........
And just for the interest of us old DB fans, post some photos of your tractor, and perhaps one of the Mods will kindly move this post to 'Classics'

Theory is that if the filter is blocked the pump will create a vacuum and bring on the light, of course lack of oil is not good for the pump.

Can't say for sure when the Yellow lamp appeared, certainly only on the 'Selectamatic' range and not on the 'Implectamatics'.

That's correct, but I rather think that the light may have been discontinued on late models [around Q cab time?] and wasn't used on the 90/94 series .I'm sure that my T reg 1210 didn't have this lamp.

Our V reg, 1979 built Sekura LP cab 996 has the hydraulic filter warning light, I've never seen it on with the tractor running though

Going by the parts books the hydraulic oil filter switch and lamp were only fitted to the 12 series up to serial number 11152617, the 9 series had them until the end of production
