I am reaching out to this forum to invite you to take part in a short survey to contribute to some research. The research is an integral part of my Dissertation which I'm required to submit as part of my University Master’s Degree in Regeneration and Development.

As I come from a farming background, I have a great interest in the lives of farmers, especially in the context of a rapidly changing landscape. Farmers are often caught in the middle; seeing the land around them change from being farmed to being developed, particularly as there is such demand for homes in the UK right now.

Considering this, I have chosen to title my dissertation:

“ 'Scratch a farmer and you find a developer'- Farmers’ reflections on their experiences and changing identities through their involvement in the development process."

So, if you are, or were a farmer that has sold farmland for residential development (by yourself, through a housebuilder or land promotion company), please consider taking part in my survey as I’d like to know about your experience of the process. It only takes 15 minutes and is completely anonymous.

The survey is simple, just click the link below and follow the questions.

I believe farmers may often be misunderstood and their voice not heard; a review of current literature indicates that there appears to be a lot of research about the experiences of farmers who have sold land to other farmers, for example when they retire or relocate. However there appears to be a limited understanding of the experiences of farmers who may have sold some of their farmland specifically for development, and the impacts this has on themselves, the wider community, and the farming industry. I think that it is important that farmers are able to communicate their experiences and let their voices be heard.

I'm happy to answer any questions, and really appreciate anyone that can contribute.

Thank you.

What I will say is that by the time you have built them a new school, health centre, cycle path and all those things that those who have nothing expect from those who have something, then it isn't the bonanza it used to be. It now costs a fortune just to get to outline planning. A newt can cost you tens of thousands paying some jobsworth to do a survey. They will get you over a barrel and do you over royally.

Thank you for your comments. Filling in the survey is greatly appreciated!

If you know anyone else that has also sold land for development please pass the link on as I'd like to hear as many views as possible.

Well, it took rather a lot of reading to find out what your dissertation is to be about. And I see someone is offering to do your dissertation for you, for a fee.

Surely, there is someone out there who will go the whole hog and get your PhD for you without you having to do anything except sign the cheque? It certainly explains why we have the people we do telling us what to do and how to do it!
