Hi, I was wondering if you could help. Recently moved house and have now inherited a field i would like to put a horse in for grazing. Downside is the field is totally overgrown, needs fenced, a gate put on and i dont know were to start who to ask, trying to get it tidied up on a tight budget. If anyone has any good suggestions for doing this? I have attached some pics of field. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the obvious thing to suggest is get someone in with a flail topper to sort out the long grass/ bracken/ brambles, and a fencing contractor to sort gate & fence......
Tight budget... Looks to be enough grass for the horse, and hope it tramples the brambles & bracken. Clear a line around the perimeter with a strimmer, and bosh up some leccy fencing yourself ?
Dig a couple of holes for gate posts and hang a gate. Will probably look a bit amateurish, but you won't be the first.......

If your horse is trained to electric tape, you could subdivide the field and ask him to graze it down in rotation. Top it later in the year, when he doesn't need lush growth. You'd need a water bowser (or the traditional old bath and biceps of coiled steel to lug buckets) for water, but the coarse grass should be useful fodder.
We forget that most horses are thrifty feeders.
