The first pic looks a bit like flixweed.
That's the stuff well done @Breckland Boy
As soon as you said it, it clicked. I'd been thinking knapweed all day which I know it's not.
Thank you. Any idea how to control it in grass? It doesn't appear on the labels of any herbicides I'm familiar with.Bittercress
There are a few of them, looks like Hairy Bittercress from the pic.
Annual weed, when ripe the seed pods twang open when touched/disturbed throwing the seeds out. Nightmare in cabbage when cutting by hand as the seeds get in your eyes summat rotten. In bad cases we would walk each row just to get the seeds out before we bent down to cut them.
I would expect it to die off anyway if it’s at the stage in the pic so not sure it’s worth spraying. Surprised the grass didn’t out compete it anyway, has the grass had a knock?Thank you. Any idea how to control it in grass? It doesn't appear on the labels of any herbicides I'm familiar with.
Bad management for a few years has left an open sward with a lot of bare ground that has let the weeds in. I have to spray for buttercup and chickweed too.I would expect it to die off anyway if it’s at the stage in the pic so not sure it’s worth spraying. Any of the hormones would likely get it, cheap and cheerful.

The new ley will have to wait a year or two. If it's too late to spray the bittercress I'll hit the buttercup and chickweed with Envy and stitch a bit of grass seed in after 1st cutStarane and Polo in the tank on your new ley then.
Keep the Polo up.
