Heard of farmers financing systems over 25 years as most systems are 10 years or less
mine are 2 at 10 years and 2 at 6 years ,I heard of 2 systems that are not been used because major problems . my view anything over15 years is a bonus

The key factor is how well they have been maintained surely. When half the cost of building is in the equipment that is a substantial cost in 15 to 20 years!

How are your 10 year old systems looking ?

Every turn arround you never wash out??
Only done it last time. Don’t intend on using water again unless we have a massive health challenge. A lot cheaper a lot easier.
We were planning to try it on half the sheds and wash the others but it was so much easier we just did it on all the sheds.
i know of someone who has never used water and his sheds are 10+ years.

Yes red mite is more of a challenge but I don’t know anyone who says washing gets rid of it.

We have paid a Dutch firm to come over and apply a silica slurry to the multi tier after washing out each year. Have only had to spray an insecticide once in 4 flocks.

That said without washing you must be able to turn a shed round in a week?

Those precious weeks empty and clean are a great time to do maintenance that is impossible with birds in! Have you a contact you could let me have for the silica slurry? Sounds interesting.

Yes this is the link, the website doesn't give much info i'm afraid.

They come over in a van on the night boat, spray the house with the silica slurry, stay at a travelodge, fog the house the next day and get the boat back.

Hoping to have them over to do ours the last week of Feb, but at the moment it's a bit up in the air with all the covid and brexit nonsense.
