Heptavac P

Definitely true, I heard smaller bottles should be back in stock end of Jan, and bigger ones in Feb but obviously that’s all subject to change- country store locally rang msd to see what the state of play was. I managed to find a 100ml bottle in another store but most places out of stock now.

Could only get 100ml bottles here between Christmas and New Year.

TBH it's getting plenty dear enough now. Have switched one of our mobs to Bravoxin. Will probably do the rest next year.

Unfortunately we'll have to stick with Heptavac (or Ovivac) for the lambs though. Such a pity Bravoxin or Covexin don't cover pasturella - there's no competition, MSD can just name their price 😒

Not sure if it’s scaremongering but had 2 people tell me today that Heptavac is in short supply, only 500ml packs available.Told that there has been a batch failure
Have been told the same here but shouldn’t really be a problem with having it in 500 ml bottles for majority of people.

Have just had everything we need in for the next few months after being told by the rep we mostly use that hep p was looking short by the end of the month- 50mls were already unavailable

Went over to Bravoxin 10 quite a few years ago, but pneumonia deaths in ewes have been creeping up the last few years, with 2021 spring being fairly bad, so reluctantly we've gone back to Hep P to see if the vast extra expense of the pasturella cover is worth it.

Putting the whole flock back on hep P is painful £££££ 😅

Don't see much pasturella in our ewes - maybe because of the Heptavac 😱
Maybe we should stick with just one mob on Bravoxin then 🤔

Pasteurella and Pneumonia is a bugger! We had big losses last year in ewes and lambs plus 3 more this week 🤦🏻‍♂️

Might have a few doses left over but 500 s are less money per dose.
I do the home bred dry ewe lambs again with the left over.
I got 1100 mule lambs to do this week, iv f**ked up because didn't get the second does into them in time so have to do one does now and another in late Feb but at least they will all be on the system to be done next year before lambing and will be one less thing to get into them before tupping.

When you went back I guess you had to start all over again with 2 doses then just an annual booster.

The wife was the driver behind the move really, I did protest that we still lost ewes to pasturella in the spring when previously on the hepP system, I'm abit dubious how effective the P cover actually is.
But going to give it a go for 2-3yrs and see how we get on

Yes had to start again,
Hep P is about 2x the price (probably more if using the smaller bottles) of bravoxin 10

3x the cost, last time I compared, with the biggest bottle sizes.:(

My crossbred ewes are all on Bravoxin now as I’m unconvinced of the effectiveness of the P element. All their lambs had a full course of Ovivac P, because I’m convinced of the effectiveness of the P element… :scratchhead: 😂

Certainly no more ewe losses here since I changed over. I took the view that lambs are worth so much now that they justified the extra cost, if anything did.

I’ve spoken with quite a few vets with sheep flocks and most do the young ewes with Heptavac, then the main flock with Bravoxin.

Marital harmony and continued cake supply is probably enough to justify the extra vaccine cost.👍
