Herd / Medicine record keeping suggestions please

We have just gone back to index cards and pencil.

Tried Herdwise and then Uniform. Both just to unreliable for my liking. Painfully slow internet connections, data lost, clumsy software not working due to it not keeping up with operating system upgrades were all starting to send me crazy with rage. Why someone can't produce a simple dairy software package which is as user friendly and reliable as our accounting software mystifies me

Thanks, my concern is that whilst I'm just about computer literate, my patience is somewhat limited when it comes to tapping in info. The whole business of waiting for downloads/uploads/updates etc is the thing that has put me off a tech based solution to record keeping. As cattle numbers increase though I'm getting fed up with the time involved constantly putting pen to paper just to keep farm assurance happy.

Trying to drag myself into the 21st century and make life a bit more efficient so could anyone recommend a computer / tablet / phone type programme / app please.

Seen a couple advertised but would appreciate some real life experiences. Thanks.
Just been thinking the same. While busy getting on with foraging and land work got behind with the dreaded paper work.
What is herdwatch like? advertised a lot at the moment?
Does Uniform not seem abit expensive? or is it worth it?

A4 lever arch file, Word Doc (or Excel) and just print off as many blank tables as you need.
When you need more, print more off.
Yep, that is basically what we do.
Even though we have 4g here it still takes minutes sometimes for these bloody apps to open up and get to a stage where you can tap something in! By then then you could have written everything up and be carrying on with your day

Here it's just an exercise book kept in the dairy, 99% of meds are given in the parlour so easy enough to note it down. And very easy to look through it to chase a cows history. Ok im only milking 60 cows, but the last exercise book lasted 10 years. Just keep it simple

I've always coped with a paper based system so far but would like to be able to for example type in a cow number and then have a complete medical history for that animal in one section and perhaps breeding history in another. I know that in theory this could be done by having a page in a book per cow but like the idea of not having to run back to the office every time I need to check something. Also like the idea of adding group treatments easily along with an accurate medicine inventory to include batch numbers etc.

We are using Uniform now, but prior to that I used the NLMD website and phone app for medicine and movements, which is a lot cheaper. I would have stuck with it but it isn't dairy specific and there was the odd niggle. Overall much simpler to use than uniform though.
