Herdsman pay

Hi everyone. Was wondering what your opinion is on a hourly rate/ salary for herdsman.
Herdsman is commuting 2 hours per day as there’s no available accommodation on farm. Responsibilities include x1 milking 250 cows at 4:30am, Feeding calves twice a day and all extra calf duties, responsible for all records/admin, foot trimming, weekly vet visits and other general farm work. 11 days on 3 off. 110 hours fortnightly. 55 per week.
Any advice much appreciated.

Don’t worry about the salary, unless there is a really good reason the commute will wear him down.

£15 if flat rate to 55 hours. Commute paid on top at same rate. This would be a minimum rate imo

So the question is are you the herdsman or employer.

If your the employer get him a house otherwise £20 an hour would be cheap. Is he on the books or self employed.

If your the employee expect a house if not ring up lkl and start looking for a job elsewhere.

A 55 hour week on oad milking seems a lot. Adding in another 10 hours driving and it is a long week.

You can get nearly that working in a supermarket with extra for overtime and there will be a supermarket far closer than a 2 hour commute.

There are dozens of vacancies on farms that are offering accommodation, more time off and 30k+

It's the 2hr commute that kills it but without the commute you still should be nearer £40,000 than 30.

Done over is a bit strong, talk about it with the employer if you are unhappy or think you are due a wage review. Toys don’t have to be thrown out the pram.

Pretty sure Iv seen the job your talking about here advertised on Facebook at £35k a year and I thought they’ve no hope of getting anybody in offering that much money unless it’s a massive coincidence that a job fitting exactly that description was advertised a day or 2 ago lol
