Here's how you can block nuisance calls on BT

Anyone on this official database isn't allowed to be called by the telemarketers.
Some will ignore it but they are open to some massive fines so if you still get calls try and get their details and number (often hidden) off them somehow and report it on the site. Text messages aren't covered unfortunately as they come under different rules.
With the BT service it should get rid of most calls though.
I have been signed up to TPS for quite a few years and quite frankly its as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
What l am finding with Call Protect is l am getting more calls with their number withheld as you cannot block them because BT can't trace them!

It's not perfect as it is relies on these businesses sticking to the law, which many don't, but they are getting hit with bigger and bigger fines these days so hopefully more notice will be taken.
It does reduce the number of callers though. I use it and I've put many of my clients on it and they have reported a lot less calls as a result.
I used to get multiple sales calls every day, now I only get a couple each month.
You have to renew your registration each year but it's free so why wouldn't you?
There's no one solution to the problem so do as many things as you can and it brings the number of calls down.

I do register every year. I must admit if during the nuisance çall if l mention that l am registered with TPS they slam the phone down pretty sharpish!

I'd a girl workig for me who used to work in a call centre. She told me if they got a rude reply, they'd phone back just to wind the householder up as cold calling can be a really boring job! Sounds probable.

Thanks for this, if registered and also get caller display back, I lost it 9 mths ago in a tariff change and wrongly thought I could do without it.

we get several calls a day , free boiler for people on benefits type things, despite being on tps, time will tell if these callers withhold their number , probably do

And UK ones do??????????????

Most do yes. All the major call centres follow the rules.
If you're not on the TPS list you are inviting everyone to cold call you so why would you not want to when it takes all of 30 seconds to register?
Some people are just stubborn and refuse to take any advice and then moan about it. There's NO downside to doing it is there?
As above, mention you are on the TPS list and they probably won't ring you back and risk it. If you can get their company name and number even better - report them to TPS. They DO follow it up and investigate if they can trace the company.
Some of the fines recently have been approaching £250K so it's not a good idea for them to get caught.
It's just the same as getting on junk mail lists, you need to be careful who you give your contact details out to and manage the situation.

Does your phone app give you the option to add numbers to a blacklist mine does (android).

In IOS save the number to a specific contact and set the ringtone, text tone and vibration settings to 'None'. And just add the numbers to the specified contact as they come in (y)
This is a screen shot of my ignore list (about 40 'contacts'):

I am surprised that anyone is recommending TPS because most people know it doesnt work.

I have at least 3 calls a day that are sales or call centre so it doesnt work. The other one now is foreign call centre buying UK numbers. The only option is to take a special answer machine attached to your phone that only picks up voices and asks who you are.

Another problem is our line is business and residential so I get bombarded with mobile phone sales.

The minutes in the day wasted is ridiculous

Had a most peculiar call today. They wanted to know if I would be willing to sell my business. Obviously didn't know who I was as they asked for the business owner. Manchester area. I only answered it because I was expecting a call back.
Have I gone broke without noticing?!
