Covid-19 has cancelled many family events around Hertfordshire, but not the county show. The show will go on as organisers have announced plans for the 2020 event to go virtual.

The Hertfordshire Agricultural Society said the event will take place on Saturday (May 23) – the same date it was originally planned for.

Taking many of the most-loved aspects and attractions from the traditional Hertfordshire County Show, the new, digital event aims to deliver a fun and engaging alternative as most families remain under varying degrees of isolation.

The virtual show will include educational videos, opportunities for live discussion, throwbacks to favourite attractions and the opportunity to engage with trade exhibitors and buy their fabulous products.

As many as 38,000 people typically attend the show.

Sarah Moreland MBE, executive director of the show, said: “We are excited by the possibilities that an online Show presents.

“The show will offer ‘attendees’ the perfect opportunity to look back with nostalgia, look at the present and learn, and look to the future with excitement and optimism.

We are living in challenging times – but every challenge presents opportunities. Here, we have a fantastic opportunity to come together and make this show the greatest show online.

Mark Bramley, chief executive of Croft Communications, headline sponsor of the show, added: “Whilst it is really unfortunate that we will not be able to all attend the country show in person this year, the plans for it to be held virtually are so very exciting.”
