More fertilizer going on next week of the organic kind before spring barley. Booked 2 muck spreaders to hire for a day or so a week tomorrow with this dry fortnight!:cautious:

Our crops have greened up a lot without any fertiliser yet. Get lots of FYM under them which helps .
After the amount of rain we had at the weekend, patience will be required .
Do people put their sulphur requirement on with the first dressing , or wait until the second dose ?

Crops need sulphur from early on. Mostly, sulphur is required at the same time as N demand which is during the main biomass growth April - June. Sulphur is more prone to leaching than nitrogen, so avoid putting it all on now if possible, but you've got to consider logistics.

At my last farm, we had N + SO3 used all season as liquid 3:1 ratio. It just suited us & there is always a grade to match your needs. It meant a bit less S on osr than we'd have liked and a bit more S on cereals than we'd have wanted but a good compromise & we could add more S by using kieserite on osr to top it up. Here, oop north on heavy clay in a lower rainfall area(!), we're all solid so will use Double Top 27N 30 SO3 early on then switch to AN later.

Just had some soil mineral N tests back. 5-38 kg/ha N available. Mostly towards the lower end. The 38 kg was in wheat after osr with sewage cake applied pre drilling. Not entirely surprising given the amount of rain that has fallen in the last 7 months.

I can hardly bear my feet on the ground as they are itching but as to go on the fields would still need wellies in places. Though this sunshine and drying wind is helping things along and looks like it will be 1 1/2 bags straight N on everything ,cereals osr grass in fact the lot just to keep things simple then see where we are

Hoping to be on at the weekend but we will have to pick off fields that will travel - lots of very wet ground still. Osr 100kg N+S, barley 65 kg N+S to do first, then wheat 40 kg N only.
