I have been watching documentary about HGV recovery and I was thinking how much would it cost to send out a heavy breakdown truck to recover fully loaded arctic and the figure I came up with is £1500

A timber lorry loaded on a slippery grass slope on a neighbour's who was away for the day so I towed him 50 yards to the gravel track. Gave me £40 which for 30 minutes work seemed OK at the time

£3500 seems common up here for simple 44 ton breakdown recovery, off road on side will be eye watering cost

I think there is astandard set of charges for recovering hgvs from a crash, or gone off road set through the police, and the payment has to be made before the vehicle is released back to the owner, and you are charged storage costs for every day you dont pay. Its not cheap

£2000 to get a coach shifted off a Dual Carriageway 3 Miles from the yard after the rear brakes caught fire. Boss wanted it dragging the wrong way and off at the previous Junction with the FH520 and Spec Lift. Police and Highways Laughed and sent a lowloader to do it for him.

We must have an honest look about us as we needed the services of heavy haulage recovery firm coming up for three weeks ago, to winch the combine out of a wet hole and I haven’t had the bill yet.
I think some of these firms will really take the pee shafting people who are in a pickle, but then again there will be folks out there who expect help for nothing!!!

The thing with those big wrecker is they cost a small fortune day 1 and your not paying for the time its working your paying for the time its sitting in the yard waiting for the call...

Those people taking the pee, will be the ones that have around a quarter of a million tied up in a specialised truck to do the job properly and probably sits for 4 days out of seven waiting for a job and only get called after the amateurs fail to get it done?

If the op is talking about the TV programme on C4 then it's an intresting look into the job but I hate the commentary, all dramatic about it's getting dark,its raining, will they clear the road by rush hour etc. I m not blaiming the blokes or the owner who appears and I know it can be a dangerous job and needs skill to complete safely but typical TV, they try and make it more tense rather than just film the work and move on.

You need to remember it’s only the farmer who seems happy to work for very little , everyone else runs a business , they not sitting waiting in a 259k wagon for a job going “well it’s a way of life you know “. Lol

I saw the USA version of this. Big money recovering trucks on US highways on ice/snow or after accodents etc. Struck me as quite dangerous too given the nature of American roads/traffic/weather.

I looked into it last winter , dangerous, out when everyone else is in got to deal with coppers /insurance/ lorry drivers/ owners / council about the worst mix of people organisations you could dream up lol then wreckers cost a fortune courses galore makes 4 k to get you wagon recovers start to look very cheap.

Local recovery firm to me at one time was run by a complete bunch of crooks with numerous convictions across the board. However thery were still considered suitable people for the police to use as the go to firm in the event of any incident . How many innocent people were twisted out of thousands of pounds I could not hazard a guess.
I believe the police collect a fat fee for every vehicle they refer to these conmen
