High horse power four cylinders can’t sustainably do the same job as a larger six pot of similar HP. Tell me I’m wrong

Yea, auto will solve the stalling issue.. but 3k more to buy and quite a lot more to go wrong. Once you’ve run an 80 series with a manual box, you don’t want anything else.. hilux not even any better on fuel when towing and rides terribly with and without trailer. Even our local haulier went back to a manual box for his main lorry.. just so cost effective to run.
+1 to all this. hilux isnt much better than my 80 on fuel when unladen, and is definitely worse when towing. My cousin runs a haulage business and has gone back to all manual trucks, apart from the one truck which gets agency drivers who cant be trusted with a manual.

DLG test from 1994. Favorit 822

Max power at 2000rpm. 199hp.

Max torque @ 1300rpm 829NM.

829nm/199hp = 4.165NM per horsepower.

First Example from CT Test. Favorit 816

Max power @ 2000 rpm 191.7 hp.

Max torque (adjusted from lb/ft to NM) @ 1025.7

1025.7/191.7= 5.35 Nm per hp.

Increase in torque from original 28.5%.

Estimated flywheel power 192x1.12= 215hp.

Increase on original power = 26%

DLG Test Fendt 516 from 2014.

Max power @1800rpm 155hp.

Max torque @ 1500 rpm 681nm

681/155 = 4.39nm per horse power.

Fendt Xylon 4cylinder MAN DLG Test 1995.

Max power @ 2200 rpm 130hp.

Max Torque @ 1400 rpm 543Nm.

543Nm/130hp= 4.17nm/hp

Old MWM as tested in ‘90’s put in good performance, good on fuel too, four and six cylinder performance very similar.

7.5 Powerstar of the same era was similar.
Ford NewHolland 8340 Test 1993.

Max power @ 2068rpm 112.3hp.

Max torque @1200 rpm 470nm

470 Nm/ 112.3hp = 4.185nm/hp

Ford/ New Holland 7740 Test 1993

Max power @2071rpm 87.7hp

Max Torque @ 1260 rpm 374.2 Nm

374.2nm/87.7hp = 4.26nm/hp.

Four and six cylinder stats with the Powerstar engine are nearly identical.

Depends what you want, I had Fendt 415 (4 cyl 155hp) and T6090 (6 cyl 165hp), obviously the T6090 had more grunt but the 415 is extremely capable, over a ton lighter, turns a much tighter radius and is cheaper on fuel for the jobs it is used for (which are mainly field operations). But obviously the bigger 6 cylinder tractor has way more torque and so walks all over it for haulage work
how much for a new 415? sounds like it could make a good loader tractor
