What are folk thinking this the last weekend before the show?
Planning Thursday and possibly Saturday with my wife.
Personally looking forward to going down, probably as we are pretty up to date, and can spare a day readily and possibly two. Forecast looks reasonable too.

Being timed while you pay online is also a shambles. They have made bit of a mess of it this year. Feel sorry for older generations trying to order tickets.

Parking used to be free before they sold them off to raise cash. New members pavillion has been just built and will have stretched their finances so they will be out to rake in as much as they can. Traffic is a nightmare on the bypass. Last time I went they left us standing on the approach road and kept the traffic moving off the m8. We sat for over an hour.
I won't be going with all the new crap about booking etc. Taking the p*ss as I see it. Can easilly live without the Highland. Used to go all the time for the social but it's just a repeat every year. No need to look at 300hp tractors I will never be buying!
According to my daughter who lives in Edinburgh they did all right hiring out to the Scottish Government various buildings as vaccination centre so covid wasn"t all doom and gloom for them.

Didn’t realise our holiday nicely coincides with the Highland show. Having conceded too the wife’s “suggestion” that I don’t go too any marts while on holiday I’ve talked her into Friday at the Highland on the way home. £80odd including parking but at least the sprog goes free! Never been before, likely won’t again so might as well have a look.

It's gonna be a nightmare with the train strikes Thursday and Saturday, extra traffic some probably won't have pre paid parking pass, personally I hope it's a complete farce and makes a shambles of their system this year, just feel a little bit sorry for the people that will have paid a lot of money that gets caught up in it
If they don’t watch themselves it will end up like the royal show what was wrong with how it was ran before ie paying on the gate , the last time I was there I think it was a record crowd but everyone got in and seem to enjoy themselves I was looking forward to going this year but I don’t think I’ll bother now

I believe the police said it was too many on one of the days.thats why they've got this 50k limit.

Friday is supposedly sold out

If I weren't local I would definitely stay in Edinburgh, busses run from the city centre to the show gate and back.
After the show it's back to town where there is plenty of night life, I see no point staying somewhere out of the way because it's cheap, it's only a couple of nights.

Agree... but use the tram, it's cheaper and quicker (get off at the last park & ride and walk 5-10mins - the fair increases quite a bit when you go in to the 'red zone' at the airport for some reason). Bus back into city at night

Re hotels, they aren't expensive if you book well in advance but the later you leave it that all go up. I've a mate won't think about the Highland until start of June 🤦🏻‍♂️ he pays through the nose for a his hotel compared to me who usually books in April (offer to book him a room at same time each year - "oh it's too soon to worry about that"!!)

I'm happy to pay a quid or 2 extra to get dropped and lifted at the gate 🙂

But the wife drives now so the kid's stuffcan be taken so getting there is fine, it's just getting home that I have to contend with, which is usually a taxi as the last train has gone.

We usually go 3 days, can't be bothered with the Sunday unless I'm going to buy something.

OK, change of plan:

Does anyone have a spare Adult and Child e-ticket for Friday?

Due to kids being kids, I need extra tickets so youngest can go with her brother and friends, not with me on Thursday.
It also means I have 2 spare child tickets (youngest and friend) for Thursday, free of charge, for anyone that needs them, assuming Thursday sells out.

[I sincerely hope the show and 'Poileous Alba' drop the shenanigans for next year...]
