Highway tow bowsers and ADR

3.5 days training. About 500 quid plus a test paper
Just had a bit of a search online. Looks like the minimum ADR course you would need to do is “core” + “tanks” + “hazard class 3”.

This lasts 5 years then a refresher needs to be taken.

Can do it in 3 days and best price I’ve found locally (sort of) so far is £195+VAT for the course and £60 for the exam. £294 all up.

999 litres it is then...

I see Valero has just lost 10,000 litres ( estimated  ). No amount of training and hi - viz jackets prevents cock ups.
When will folks wake up and realise this ?
Will it be soon ?

Workmate of mine was told by a well known bowser maker that we could tow a 4500 ltr bowser on the road with a tractor or forklift as long as we did not exceed 20 mph. Without an adr.

Don't forget that in order to take advantage of the ADR limited quantity exemption the driver of the vehicle still needs to have been given "ADR awareness" training. Nobody was able to formally define what that is, but a DGSA I know was of the opinion that some sort of formal training would be required on the basics. We got an ADR trainer on site to deliver what was effectively day one of the ADR course to our guys, tailored to what we would be carrying (Jet-A1, or aviation kerosene in layman's terms).

Also, there needs to be a 2kg dry powder fire extinguisher available in the vehicle, which is not beyond its expiry date and still has the original seal intact. There might be other things I've forgotten too.

Can anyone tell me what sticker I need on my bouser ? Under a 1000 l currently has no stickers and would like to be a bit more legal

These are the stickers Western G. use on their 900 litre fuel cubes, bowsers etc etc...
  • Hazard symbol for flammable liquids (class 3)
  • Hazard symbol for "environmental hazard"
  • The capacity of the tank (litres), and
  • UN1202 the UN number for gas oil / diesel /heating oil
