Hilux 2.8 2021, has anyone got one yet?

I cant fault Toyota's newest model. The gearbox is better, the ride is better, the power is better. Really enjoying the vehicle. Really a joy to work with the pickup and it can pickup its "wheels" and run if need be.

To be fair to current model Hilux and seating position, the one I occasionally drive the owner is tall and has seat in lowest position. I’ve never tried raising the seat. You do appear to sit more straight legged and lower than dmax of which i don’t have the seat jacked up. D max 2.5 seat has poor lumbar support and I end up with sharp pain in bottom of spine on long journeys and zero lateral support which stops you sliding sideways out of the seat - or the feeling of. That said if you’re in and out it doesn’t want to much in the way of seat bolstering. Chap down the way has a 1.9 d max blade and he can’t wait to get rid of that because of the seat - mainly! He much prefers the Ranger seat of his near neighbour.

Had an amorak then went to a hilux but cant complain about the hilux seating both different vehicles. Amorak seating is higher but lower at the front end which doesnt help with ground clearance. I ended up putting taller tyres on the vw as it was too low.

But which would be the better farm/towing vehicle?

It's like Toyota decided to emulate the driving position of formula 1 only in a pick up. Be ideal for folk who are used to driving a kayak.

I would be interested to hear how folk get on with the new 2.8 engine and an automatic transmission if it is possible to have one?

I find the Hilux seating fine
Dunno what the fuss is about
Yes you can get invincible & invincible X in 2.8 with auto or manual

Sorry this is another pickup thread!
Being unwilling to replace my Navara with another due to really poor service and back up from both the Nissan dealers I have tried added to the fact that they will soon not be available I am looking at alternatives.
Went and looked at the new Isuzu and drove one, came back totally under whelmed! And the price was out of this world with hardly any discount off list. I thought it lacked power and refinement and didn't compare in any shape and form to my Navara. However I am sure I would get better back up.
I have never being a fan of the Ford Ranger and know of too many issues with friends trucks. I also her Ford dealers back up is pretty poor.
That really just leaves Toyota, new model, bigger engine and power and good residual value. but what is it like as I haven't managed to get a demo yet.
Incidentally with NFU/ Mole Valley discount it is by far the best value for money and many thousand £ cheaper than the Isuzu! If you want one it is December/ Jan delivery at the moment. Maybe that tells you something.

Friend bought an top spec X model. Drives nice but it’s very agricultural compared to our Ranger and Amarok. It’s no where near as quick as them either. Also my pet hate with Hilux is the seating position as you feel like your lying down.

You‘ve got the seat back reclined 😁 Never a good look when you drive by the local constabule on the way home from the pub 🤣

In comparison to the Ford and VW then the 2.4 Toyota won’t be as quick. A lot say it’s very underpowered and slow but personally didn’t think it that bad? The 2.8 Toyota should be an improvement. I thought about one but went a little cold when local Toyota dealer had no interest in a demo of one. True they were closed due to covid but no interest in even booking a demo once they were open. He said they had a 2.8 manual in showroom that ‘I could have a look at if I want’. He also thought I was a complete lunatic for even looking at a new d-max - well at least they let me drive one and take it home over night and hang a trailer on! He was probably right on the lunatic bit 🤪 Decided to keep my not that old really, d-max.

It's funny how there's heaps of threads on here talking about how manufacturers don't cater to the Ag market anymore, then as soon as a vehicle is actually described as agricultural, it gets criticised.
Of all the brands I'd say Toyota most suits Ag work. If you're towing all day every day, its a HGV that you're after. If you're doing a million motorway miles, you need a car or SUV. A Hilux is a good allrounder.

Neighbour has one..... it’s very very agricultural. Gearbox is very slow to change. Styling (invincible x) is er erm interesting. Seating position is still awful . It’s noisy too . Personally I’d go Ford ranger
So, still a Hilux with the hollowly banging doors that sound like they're made out of the cheapest sheet metal with zero insulation. 🤣 They still sell for lots and keep their price. You can't get 10 years old with less than 150000 miles for under 20k€ here. :scratchhead:

Hilux more suited to work. Vw will tow better with v6 but think it can only tow 3.1t new 2.8 will be good.
A firm here makes Hilux "trucks" (speed limited to 90km/h). They'll slap an air suspension to the rear axle so you can tow 3,5 tons without the back end dropping down. Seats for five and 3 years or 100000km's of warranty. And if memory serves right, you could load 1500kg's onto the rear deck. And it costs 10000€ less than an equivalent new Hilux designed for civilian traffic.

With the 10k€ price difference and 600€/year tax difference (for the truck you pay 75€ of tax a year, for the pickup you pay ~675€/year) i'd go for the truck any day.

why do toyota GB make it so hard to buy a hilux ? i dont know if im expecting to much ? and i speak from someone whos bought 4 new hiluxs over the years, last one i bought just over 2 years ago and that was like pulling teeth ? i thought buying something new should be a pleasant experience, but no not with toyota ? one example when buying my currant one, me and my father were at the dealership, we asked when we had decided on the options like towbar, loadliner, mettalic paint, what was the price, salesman said to us what do you want to Pay ? even my father thought it was unproffesional ? bought it in the end ? now enquired about a new model and availability, so far no reply ?
