Hilux clutch knackered

As per the title, just slightly surprised it has gone so soon. Truck is 5 years old with only 36,000 miles. Has done some towing but not much. Noise from thrust bearing already, shudders when pulling away, and i was trying to climb out of a very shallow furrow the other day and had smoke pouring off the clutch.
Are they notoriously poor quality these days? Was expecting more from the supposedly invincible hilux.

Too high geared imho so manoeuvres with trailer murder the clutch and low box automatically puts them in 4wd so you struggle steering. I'm up to 110,000 now and been nursing clutch for about 25k now so I'd say yours is v early.

Our 12 reg Hi-Lux stinks of burning rubber when the clutch slips, it's done about 65000 miles, I think it's on the original clutch. It's just a matter of time before it needs a new one I think

We have a one year old one, engine torque is so poor at low revs that the inevitable revving must be hard on the clutch.. once the revs are up a bit it’s ok. What a disappointment after coming from the torque monster 4.2 landcruiser..

Mine on 136k original clutch. Trailer on half the time. As above low box for any starts that are pointing upwards with a loaded trailer on. Reverse too high too. Learnt in the early days clutch would burn if you tried any other method

Same old story i have been told
they sell them by name now and cut back on manufacturing price/quality
Its a shame an other good reliable work horse going the way off the modern world
Why can company’s not build a good old workhorse that you can wash out with a hose pipe and pull a train that you can fix on the side off the road

My 09 reg used to do that at times.if I was not being sensible.was worst on slopes at traffic lights when pulling 3.5 tons.last 4 truck I’ve had have been automatic and I’d never go back to manual again.

How many miles do u put on the automatic before u change it? Have u ever had problems?

Normally 6/7000.current one I had since March only done 2000 as not been anywhere.no issues apart from moisture in radar sensor on first one,and creaking in front of vehicle which I thought was suspension but ended up being wrongly adjusted bonnet stops.nearly every hilux has this issue.some early ones,mk 8s, had windscreen crack whilst going over uneven ground.this was traced to dab aerial wire embedded in screen causing a weak spot that then cracked.
