Hinge width

What sort of widths are people using? I am aware that different ploughs/furrow widths have different hinge widths but just trying to fathom out what seems acceptable. I know the standard Fergie is 10" furrow with 8" wide share so 2" width. What widths do the Ransomes boys have as a hinge? Trailed ploughs width and hinge?
I have noticed in nice moist conditions that 1 1/2" turns a treat but in very dry conditions it just shears the furrow bottom very roughly. I also notice that when trying to straighten my inevitable wonky furrow that trying to take a narrow front, it just cuts it through and pushes the furrow across, most noticeably in grass, so would lead me to believe a wider hinge is needed or I need to plough straight!!!
So if for example I plough using an 8" furrow my shares would want to be 6-6 1/2" wide. Which then leads me onto share angle (if looking from above the plough) The actual angle from the point to the tip of the wing, I notice that the Ransomes has quite a few different wing shapes/angles, would I be right in assuming that the lower the angle (more pointy share) would result in a more gentle cut of the soil and start the inversion process earlier as opposed to a larger angle (less pointed when looking from above) that would cut the soil more aggressively. Why do the angles differ and for what reasons please?

in strong heavy land you need four fifths the width of furrow, in light land you need two thirds the width,
as for the angle, you will find most ransomes men plough with yl44, this is flat straight sided share to cut it out better alround,
pointed shares are used in stoney land, but the is shares with lift on the wing, this helps shape the furrow if conditions allow and that is the type of work you want
