Hip Pain

I am starting to get hip pain - unlikely to be arthritis of hips which apparently is normally felt in the groin. Mine is on the outside of the hips on the thighs and worse on initially standing up - probably bursitis. I can feel tenderness right on the tips of the bones which is often worse when I am lying down. For the OP - have you asked your GP if you can get some pain management counselling - it works for some people with chronic conditions.

Look at the way you move when you're in the parlour, I've had a bad back and hip for years but going full time milking just about finished it off. I modified the way I was walking in the parlour and it improved a lot, I used to continually step sideways from one cow to the next down the line but I think this aggravated my hip. Once I changed to turning myself and taking a proper step forward to the next cow, things improved. You've not long changed to a new style parlour, one like the one I was working in, see if this is causing you problems.

I'm not usually the one milking - once I'd got Prince Pooper up and running I was booted back out to my calves,.,.,. in my case, a lot of manual handling - spend half my life in winter either with a wheelbarrow or carrying 2 x buckets of cake or buckets of milk - won't be helping. Been reading up on this and it seems to fit the bill for me. https://cks.nice.org.uk/greater-trochanteric-pain-syndrome-trochanteric-bursitis#!topicsummary

Sounds like you need to invest in some mechanisation; you’ve only one body, and it won’t be getting any younger.

Looking at my well used and abused Clarks boots I wear to work you may have a point. Outside of both heels are worn down with, more so on the left hand side which is the same side as the painful hip.

Yes, me too. Have had it a long time and much worse after sleeping which is usually on the side. Options for treatment don’t look to be permanent or long lasting.
