1977 The college farm manager wanted to put in a Gobar biogas plant and as I was running the engineering workshop I got involved in building the gasholder. That was my original inspiration for our current AD plant. One problem we had was a hyena getting stuck in the slurry hole.

I love the casual quote
"That was my original inspiration for our current AD plant. One problem we had was a hyena getting stuck in the slurry hole. "
As you do.....

This is my thread of the year.

Ploughing with MF185 and Hamco 707 reversible disc plough. Reversed by pulling the rope, when the weight on the top link swings the beam across to the other side and sets the disc angle.

Had an Eicher Goodearth from India to test. single cylinder 25 HP engine with a 150 kg flywheel. Instructions were to take the engine off the flywheel, rather than the other way round!. Was good for cranking on the decompressor, gave you plenty of time to walk round to take off the decompressor. Malawians loved the seats on the mudguards.

Every time I think, this rich seam of photos and history is sadly about to be exhausted, I get a pleasant surprise

Thank you for continually posting, I know I speak for a lot of us when I say we find this thread really interesting
I feel very fortunate to have had all the opportunities in my career (which had no plan at all, just happened) so I have been able to take the photos. Just remembered, I have not covered the university expedition to Senegal when we drove across the Sahara and I looked at village agriculture. Perhaps later.

1980 Did some no-till trials with Gramoxone, and a "rolling jab planter" which had a beak which punched a hole in the ground and dropped a seed in. The ones on the 2 wheel tractor were commercially made - Groom System from Lincolnshire, the hand pushed one we made in the workshop. One problem was the termites carting away all the mulch.
