I am only the novice, having spent 22 years in Africa. My father took it from 100 odd acres in the War to about 1300 before he died, rented in lots of land for carrots. I have lost the majority of the rented land, seen the staff cut to 1/3 of what it was. My wife developed the cheese, all I can take credit for is the AD and electronics side of things, although I was instrumental in the change to Brown Swiss, now going zero till where possible.
this is a really interesting thread, love seeing the old pictures and how far things have come in 50years, makes you wonder where we will be in another 50.
mind if I ask what you were doing in Africa, its always interesting to see how people live in other parts of the world
Maybe when I get more up to date with this thread I will show some of Africa. 9 years at the University of Malawi teaching agricultural engineering and doing research on tractor energy use. Then 4 years at Tobacco Research looking at ways of reducing fuelwood use for tobacco curing, finally 9 years at Tea Research building a research tea factory and investigating tea drying.I would like to ask something similar. What took you to Africa away from something that looked from the pictures ancd videos to be the ideal farming business
You've had a very full life thus farMaybe when I get more up to date with this thread I will show some of Africa. 9 years at the University of Malawi teaching agricultural engineering and doing research on tractor energy use. I have been extremely fortunate with the opportunities I have had, and been able to bring the experience back to Norfolk. You've had a very full life thus far
i agree all cows should look like thatThat Oraje is a cracking animal, as near the perfect Friesian as I have ever seen, no wonder she won you many prizes. Was she bred by you?
No, Peter Prior bought her from the Foxhole herd the other side of NorwichThat Oraje is a cracking animal, as near the perfect Friesian as I have ever seen, no wonder she won you many prizes. Was she bred by you?
I would say that was a very big deal in those days .1989 - Traded in all the smaller tractors for this lot - got a very good deal. Some of the front tyres look dirty - they were Hard Rock Rib which we transferred from the Leylands as we could no longer get them and they were the most puncture resistant on our flints.
