Hi. My grandad just to work for Hoekstra. Its coming up to his 80th birthday. I was wondering if anyone had anyone pictures of there equipment or ever used anything they made. He's always told me they were the top end of the market. But i don't know. I followed my dad into the dairy side. Any help would be greatly appreciated

We used to have Hoekstra potato ridger (bought 2nd hand). It wasn't the best machine in the world so we changed it for a newer Baselier machine maybe 7 or 8 years ago. I don't think I have a picture, sorry. There were probably lots of them round here back in the day along with another brand called Rumpstad. I believe they made potato planters and other machines too possibly but before my time really. I don't know if they made anything other than potato machinery.
I'm sure that there must be several still around both on farms and in dealers yards so hope that someone can help.

We had a Hoekstra rotary ridger, I never saw it used, just sat in the shed till sold years later. Looked a well built machine, but I don’t know why they bought it and never used it?!

I wonder if my Grandad bought it to weed the potato ridges🤔

Some of the early automatic planters made a poor ridge, compouded by the fact they were working into cultivated land not a rasied bed created by seperators.

Dad used to use a two row tatty planter ,,it had a flat belt you tipped the spuds onto and they dropped onto a contra rotating bed of rubber bands ,,it was precise considering it was fancy design ,,only needed a sharp knife ,a tube of super glue and a 19mm spanner to fix or alter it .
Then they used to hire a powered ridger ,it covered 4 rows ,supposed to smash the clods down on the sides of the ridges ,,boss was forever welding new tips on the points and hard facing them ,,it made a massey 590 sing .
