Holdings and Farm Assurance

So just doing a little thinking and potential future proofing and thinking about splitting the farm into two holdings.

One holding all original and another under a relatives name. Basically some existing buildings changes over.
It will be all above board with Defra but wondered where that leaves us regarding Assurance.

What is Farm Assurance actually attributed to? The holding number? The registered holder? The premises?

Basically can one Assurance cover two holdings, by two different holders on the same premises?

You can register several holdings against one FA number (least you can with SAI G )

Be aware you will need to pre-movement test cattle if you are moving them to the other holding (for summer grazing etc )

Excellent. That is what I was hoping. We are with SAI.

Yep, aware pre movement would be required

We asked for multiple holdings 2-3 years ago all within 5 mile, 6-7 CPH numbers run under 1 movement and 2 farms at home under another movement - they wouldn’t allow it even though we wanted 2 main holdings, one for organic and one for non organic but because all the holdings were within 10mile they made us run them all under 1 holding, fortunately we don’t buy/sell much live but we wanted both enterprises kept entirely separate as they are ran separately.

I know of someone who had FA done on his sheep flock (1000 ewes) they did the FA on the 30ac home farm but apparently only the sheep there would qualify for FA and they’d have to FA every individual holding even though their fields only and often only 1-2 fields per CPH, he threatened to quit the scheme and they let it go but their really getting picky these days!
