Any one run holiday cottages in Scotland been asked for a return of information from their local Assessors? Some pretty invasive info asked for, such as nights let, nights used by family, what work the family does to run the place, whole bunch of expenditure from telephone, heating and lights, insurance,(Business Liability ,and property and contents)postage, laundry, commission wages and NI contributions.Apparently if accounts are available these SHOULD be sent with the form, going back 3 years. My cottage income /expenditure are in the farm accounts, and why the hell should any public body get them without good cause?Slightly peeved to say the least as there is a lot of work to sift out this info, for two cottages and a form for each and only 14 days to submit, and I'm busy.

It maybe a way of checking they are being used for holiday lets & not residential? Holiday accommodation is council tax free. We haven't been asked for this.

We had the same when trying to put a cottage onto commercial rates instead of council tax, cottage becomes eligible for commercial once it is used for more than 70 nights a year let out. So you need to prove when it became eligible to the Valuation office, I presume its the same in Scotland?

We've just had that form arrive and it needs to be submitted in a few days. As said, it's a pain trying to fill in all 8 pages for one small cottage, but at least we are exempt rates as it is classed as a small business.
