Have any of you manged to fit a homemade stone guard the full width of the header, behind the fingers to prevent/ hold stones ,so they do not go straight in to the auger and beyond.? I ask the above as we will be harvesting peas and so cutterbar will be very vunerable to stones.

I'm hoping to knock up 2 lengths of angle to run one near the step up just behind the knife and one about 6 inches behind that to give a trough for the stones to sit.
The header arrived with a proper CNH stone dam but it has nowhere for the stones to sit so they either bounce around on the knife until the fall of the front or they end up in the combine anyway after being flicked over the dam by the reel

Thanks for your post,it seems an excellent idea ,providing the second strip of angle does not impede the crop flow, so much so that the crop does not flow smoothly under the auger.
How are you going to secure the second strip of angle, iron to the table bed which slides forward and backwards?
Good to hear that we are not the only one's that suffer with stones .
The stones that cause us grief and major expense are around 100mm thick x 300mm x 200mm , on the Cotswolds stone of this size are not uncommon ,even after rolling fields twice.
