home'n dry.....again

As a newbie to home n dry/ alpha, I intend to mix one of these products on the shed floor. Is either of these easier or more successful if no mixer wagon available?

I’ve no knowledge of the Norvite product, but I have certainly mixed Home n Dry in that way several times. The more through the mixing the better, and you need to make sure there aren’t any lumps (or you might be feeding a lump of urea). Seems to work as well as when I borrowed a Keenan to do it once, but might be more of a PITA if doing a large quantity?

My bulls weren’t and it was affecting growth rates. wasn’t offered any useful advice from five f, back up was pretty sh*t really, and I had asked whether it would be ok without it before I started. Went to Norvite, rep very helpful said it definitely needed molasses for both palatability and sugar content to balance it, tried it, fantastic results.

Out of interest, why do Norvite say it needs sugar to balance it? I’ve only ever heard that from the buy that posted on here (that was selling a different version).

I think because it needs a rapidly digestible source of carbohydrate to match the quickly utilised protein

Hi guys, have got some barley and oats treated with home n dry . Have it mixed with a little soya to feed to in lamb ewes, wondering if it is safe to continue to feed once they’ve got lambs at foot and lambs are nibbling at it ? Would urea effect them ? Thanks

Carry on. Its safe. There should be no urea left as urea.

I've treat some barley with urea at harvest. I've use a lot of it but I need to move whats left to another shed. Will it keep ok.

Can you add a bit of extra urea when moving it? Chuck it about over the heap whilst pushing up? I need to move some too and have a bit of urea left over from treating post harvest...

I would be carefull that you don't over do it or have lumps of urea left.

There’s no need. Just keep the surplus urea for next year, it keeps fine.
A pallet of H&D treats about 30t so I only buy a pallet every 2 or 3 years, and it works fine. I’ve no ambitions to feed any more than I do already, so no plans on treating more in a year.

OK, so we've not much grass...

.....already eaten off what we usually save to wean lambs onto. Got one last bunch to wean and there looks to be some big 'uns that would be better finished off on a bit of feed rather than letting them 'run off' and have to put it back on later.
What's the current price and availability of Home and Dry @Adam@Rumen ?? (PM me if you'd prefer).
Barley has come down a bit but it'll be hellish dry. Can I add a bit of water?

Only thinking about H&D as my usual protein balancer is quoted at £448/tonne and rising

Is that per ton, or per pallet? Iirc the 25kg bags come on pallets with a good bit over a ton on (1200kg?).

I have nearly half a ton still in stock, ready to use this year. In the same situation as @yellowbelly , I’m thinking of getting 300 of the nearest lambs onto Alkagrain in a hopper, to ease pressure on the rest. Hopefully the rain will come in order to take care of them on grass/various crops, but could certainly do with a few less on the ground currently!

The bags are 20kg and yes it’s 1350 per ton
