Honda 520 pioneer

Has anybody had a go in the new 520 pioneer?
Look quite an interesting alternative to a quad bike without moving to the bigger heavier side by sides. Nippier, manoeuvrable, and easy ran into a bike trailer for shipping between blocks of land.
Hi, have you had any experience with these machines? I'm just browsing on net wondering wether to just get a ATV or a pioneer.

No afraid not, local dealer didnt respond to my enquiry so didn't get a chance to try it out. Their loss tbh as it was a genuine interest

The idea is good but they have the awful auto Dct gearbox in them, you’ll be lucky to find one aswell as theirs no stock
I know it’s jumpy but is this gearbox reliable. Got yam at the moment but sick of the build quality, foot steps just break for fun.

They are not the most reliable! They are better if you don’t use it in auto, but we have several customers who have returned them as unusuable, the one guy got thrown over the handlebars after it decided to randomly select several gears lower than it should have!

Thanks for heads up. Makes yamahas foot well problems seem very minor then.

No both yams
Yer yams are not the best engines, we have rebuilt several that havnt done a lot of work. I don’t think we have had to go into a Suzuki engine ever, unless it’s completely worn out and been run without oil etc, we have changed clutches and things like that but they are very good, not many people go back once they have had one

Had a pioneer for the last 6 months or so here. Quite like it on the whole so far-it's a nice crossover between the bike and a gator. It still nimble enough to do most kinds of stock work and a windscreen and roof is nice on a manky wet day. Don't particularly like the gearbox and I wouldn't trust it on the steep. But that's what the quad bike is for.

@AngusLad Is it the 520 you have? Looking for a replacement for my fathers Honda 250 mainly for him pootling about in, he’s not driving his van any longer so looking for a bit more weather protection. I saw a bit on Grassmen about it and thought it looked handy, also the two up seating would be convenient. Have you any sort of doors on yours? How much weight can the back tray carry?

Yes it's the 520 we've got. It just came with those wee half plastic doors which we just took off but I'd imagine you can spec them with full doors. I'll have a look at what the carry capacity is when I go back out in a bit - it's nothing to get excited about though

Just to resurrect this old thread, how are you getting on with the little pioneer?
