Hope Everyone Is Ok?

I went to the AHDB conference yesterday, and as I sat there, I was thinking how much Levy money was spent on Hotels/Meals and the conference itself. As I looked around the room of 80 or so people, you can spot a farmer a mile off, and I would be surprised if there were more than a dozen actual levy payers in the room. This was beginning to make me feel rather resentful, listening to speakers talking high prices and good profits, and would offset any fertiliser increases. Then I watched as an awkward question regarding Equivalence to Imports and Red Tractor appeared on the Questions and Answers screen, it was briefly answered and washed aside, with the question removed from the screen, even though other questions remained. The industry needs to wake up and realise not everyone has sold well, got a shed full of glyphosate and bought all their N.

I'm not ok.
Struggling to finish harvest. Whether on the change next week. Unlikely to get our heavy ground into wheat.
Maybe that is a good thing with no N bought. Lather the whole lot in muck and put to spring barley. And keeping with the new law.
Rather despondent. Good days seem hard to come by. Is it all worth it.......

Ty. I'm completely fooked. I'm a decently fit, 41 year old. Double jabbed etc. My children brought it home from school and had a "bit of a cough". I've been ropey since last Tuesday, and bedridden since Friday. With luck I'll be up drilling by the weekend. No fun having seed, roundup and fert if you can't plant the stuff.

I can say I've not been this ill since I had flu as a child. Can't eat. Can't regulate my own temperature at all. And this cough. It's like whooping cough. It will start and go on for an hour. So draining.

Oh yes all those actual farmers who are planting next years crop had better watch out for the congestion in London. God I hate everyone.

Bummer, I really do hope you start to feel better soon TC. These sirts of things are even worse somehow when you know you have work or other plans too.

Good thread. I am always amazed at how many “hangers on” turn up to all these meetings. Surely there must be more people relying on farming than actually doing it. We need far leaner and more reactive organisations at the top of farming.
Went to a "conference" on teh then, Mid Tier scheme, put on several years ago and I reckon there were more hangers on and advisers than farmers. Good grub tempted them out I suspect....

I'm not ok. I have covid and, apart from yesterday where I managed to walk downstairs, I haven't left my bed since Friday.

So currently very little farming going on.
Get well soon.
Lots about at moment. My lad tested positive on Saturday, caught it at school. I'm trying to keep out the way as I'm drilling and don't want to get it.

My Wife and I tested positive for it over the weekend as well. Interestingly I felt rough early last week but the lateral flow test was negative. I had a day on the sofa looking after a poorly two year old and started to feel a bit better, still tired and achey though especially in the evenings, wwent back to work though, mainly sat on a tractor.

By the weekend my wife felt a bit ropey and did a lateral flow which was positive, I then did another one which was also positive.

Got PCRs on Monday which confirmed us as positive, one snotty child negative and the other inconclusive.

I’m better now and have elected to isolate on the seed drill, although Gem pretty rough so doing a bit of childcare as and when.

If you test positive on a PCR, do you have to self isolate at home for 10 days which means you cant even go on your tractor and carry on farming if you have no symptoms and feel ok (in an isolated way ?)
Ive heard of people receiving a phone call each day checking that they have not left the house ?
Went for a PCR test at the weekend and luckily was negative but not sure implications workwise a positve result would have especially when you are busy and weather dependant.

Last autumn when our 2 year old tested positive the test and trace lady said I could as long as I had no contact with anyone else and no one else drove the tractor.

Whether another test and trace person would say the same thing this time I’m not sure, but I’m sticking to the original advice.

Word of warning, wives get quite irate at having to do all the childcare, however the weather is glorious and the wheat won’t drill itself so what’s one to do?
