I had a demo of a 6m Avatar with a 230hp Claas and it used all those horses on slopes. The demo machine had 1.4t of weights on it for penetrating into hard ground which I wouldn't need so that would improve it a lot IMO. The unballasted version was still around 8 tonnes empty. On gentle slopes I think your 6215R would be ok as long as you don't want to put beans in 3" deep at 16 kph.

Which other machines have caught your eye Brisel?

Boss - not sure about UK marketing just yet but a demo has been booked for the summer
750A on Pro Series openers - the best openers on the market but an awful chassis & hoppers that need updating
Avatar - better hoppers than the JD, well built and just as good in the field
Virkar Dynamic - great versatile machine but I didn't have a demo last year because they couldn't get it to drill into chopped barley straw. Now with mods that should overcome that & disc openers being developed that you can swap out the leading disc + tine boots with.

We are working with Horizon DSX in Latvia. We visited farmer who also tested Avatar and Novag before Horizon. Heavy clay. Avatar could not get discs in the ground and also could not close the slot. In wet conditions the coulters blocked. Novag could not close the slot and definitely is not the ideal machine if the conditions are slightly wet. Some pictures of Avatar and Novag attached

Some pictures of DSX.
Surely there are some minor issues with the drill, but are easily improved.
It works great in loose, hard, wet or dry conditions. Can be adjusted in a lot of ways. And it is not the same as the Boss drill. Major improvements and advantages on the DSX compared to the Boss

Is it correct that the 12mtr Avatar penetrates a lot better than the 6mtr Avatar due to having different geometry for the coulter linkage?

not done a direct comparison but i don’t think our 12m penetrates as well as our 750a did - like @dontknowanything suggest the bigger disc diameter is probably the reason, it’s not really caused us issues however but maybe on heavy land it would be a bigger problem ??

in every other respect its much better however

thanks, just like i thought. amazone is slick and even has a dark mode like most other devices (phones, computers, etc) lol
maybe its a stupid reason not to buy but i take everything into consideration

Yeah I agree, poor attention to detail like that annoys me too. However if crop establishment is part of your consideration I am very pleased with the avatar. 😊
I took this while slug baiting today. Spring oats drilled 3rd of August straight into cover crop that was grazed with sheep
