Brings up more lumps than a carrier and lacks the ability to work very shallow. It's a rougher copy basically but if your wanting very shallow cultivation and a fine filth then the discs are to big and aggressive.

Had one on demo Tom , quite impressed did a even job across the working width , my old carrier didn't !!! But the new carrier looks better , trying one of them when we next get some land cleared !!!!!!

I diss agree with the above post a joker is the machine you want if you want a tool which will go out and create a chit. A terrano will be far to aggressive for this. Have seen many jokers of varying widths used for this purpose. With each different type of joker I think there are different disk sizes to better suit your needs. There's about 4 different joker models.

Bought one last year (5 metre CT mounted). Has done all the cultivation work replacing Simba 2b discs Got good blackgrass chits, and never had such level and "firm" seedbeds. Secret -go fast (up to 20km). Either Google or FB Flawborough Farms and see their 12 metre version at work behind a Quadtrac. Does all their cultivation work.
Agree with Db880 about Terrano but will work in wet conditions better than a Joker.

Saw a joker and carrier working in the same field and the joker was far far more aggressive as the discs were larger and serated. I've no idea what model it was and didn't know about different sized discs available. But on that day the carrier did a far superior job. The joker is very similar to an x-press which wasn't a great machine.

We've got a 3m one with a tg bar and a seeder on top and are very happy with it. We have done grass seed and rape and stubble turnips with it with good results. Wish I'd had the hydraulic packer roller though as changing the roller depth can be a bit of a pain but if you don't have the tg it should be better. We will see what the results are like with osr in the autumn but I see no problems.

Think Rt is trailed version of my CT. Was dubious to start with about the effectiveness of the roll pack packer but will work much better in wetter conditions than any other type including a DD.

Currently looking at these type of machines , the new carrier L looks a good tool also going to try a sumo mixadisc and looking at a Watkins Incorporater and KV Qualidisc any body tried any of these???

Anybody that's got a rapid drill could get the same effect so doubling the use of the drill. It'll also drop fert and avadex on the surface for you if you want at the same time. Pretty sure it could also apply chemicals if you want with some adaption as well as planting a cover crop!

It's got angled cutting discs for shallow chitting, a levelling board, seeding discs for more levelling and then a pretty dam good consolidation tyre and Harrow if required.

It's a 'precision' bg chitting tool!

Got one of the new Carrier 'L' here. Tried it and the original Carrier on demo. Ruled out the Joker, one reason being we wanted to use it on ploughed land so wanted the leveling board, which on the Joker they seem to think you don't need where the front outrigger wheels run, whereas we thought it better with a full width leveling board.
Would say that original Carrier much better purely for getting a chit as with smaller less aggressive discs its just the ticket. 'L' model much more handy for general cultivations on stubble and plough, but with the ability to scratch the top fairly well.

That's what I'm thinking with the carrier L but I've not had chance to try one yet . What width / horsepower you got , have you tried it in chopped straw??

Got the 5 metre one as only 230 hp available and on the plough with the levelling boards down that was all it could cope with on the demo.
No chopped straw yet as all barley baled and not starting wheat until tomorrow. Just had it on some tall rape stubbles so far. Only used the demo one on the ploughed land.

My bad I have used a terrano before but saw another machine at a field day and was told it was a joker. Now having looked on the web and think it was a more aggressive version of the terrano that was set up for maize ground.

There are a lot of different joker versions. Food for thought.

Having now tried a variety of machines I think the carrier 525 L that we tried is the best all round machine . Full width paddle boards at front worked well on ploughing leaving a nice level finish. The disc design and profile is a compromise between slicing and lifting. Most other machines discs were too aggressive .
