Horse waste disposal

Hi all.
I am new to the site and came across it searching a specific query.
I own a parcel of land, previous use was equestrian so not classed as agricultural, Next to a plot where the owner keeps polo ponies.
The owner has been tipping all their fresh muck with horse hair and wood shaving bedding on the hedge just their side of the the boundary which separates our two plots. It is easily visible and on a sunny day or wind or breaker in the wrong direction stinks and flies everywhere and is directly behind our barn and hardstanding which is our most used area.
I know this is the countryside but before I go further I wanted to know if it’s acceptable.
The horse waste and shavings and hair are fresh and in no way composted.
I would very much appreciate some factual responses.
Many Thanks

Sadly there is probably nothing you can do about it apart from having a word with them and hope they are a decent neighbour, but if they dont want to change anything you might have to put up with it......... Or throw matches at it 👍😂

Is the barn your work place or home,I would have a word with them over your concerns a nice approach first. If they tell you to do one you maybe could ask council environment officer.Does the muck rules not apply to horse owners with land. You only have a muck heap where it is to be spread.Another concern is it near a water course

It's a midden, there is nothing you can do apart from make a stink with all the council agencies. It'll sour any relationship with your neighbour, but you're obviously not interested in speaking to them in any way apart from starting a confrontation

If your quality of life is utterly destroyed by the wee pile of poo, then I suggest you start keeping pigs

The pigs will ensure that you won't get any further problems from this neighbour, or their Polo pony shyte. Just cut the neighbour up and feed them to the pigs, problem solved 👍

Have a horrible feeling the OP doesn’t own a machine to move it/ trailer.... or is it just me....

Well then obviously he should at the first possible opportunity tommorow morning get down his local dealer to order a Fendt 724(or chip a 720, see other thread), a bunning rear discharge with load cells set up for variable rate, (other spreaders are available) spreading hood and spinning discs and at a minimum a JCB 419 to load it.......... although if he starts researching on here they have diff issues and Komatsus and Volvos are better for wagon silage so really the op needs to decide if he’s a SPFH type of guy or budgie cage or if he preferes bales......

Exactly why I suggested having a word with Environmental Health who should know the law, but on reflection probably won't. The firearms inspector, who interviewed me prior to the return of my guns, said it is always wise to continue a dispute through a neutral third party. I suspect because that gives you the opportunity to retreat by saying, "I never said that! I LOVE the smell of horse sh!t. It's the cops just stirring up trouble again". Anyway, in this civilised society of ours, there's a law against everything when you need one.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, after time the nasal smell detectors will cease to recognise the stink. The best way to accelerate this desensitization is to strip off and have a roll in the heap. I know it will work cos I can't smell the stink of silage and cattle that Mrs. can!

It's an amazing money earning diversification opportunity!!!!!

Just Google "manure fetish" and you'll discover that there are many desperate people desperate for gratification using the midden heap 🤐 😳

Hint, you may need to add water for the correct consistency, and then delete browsing history

I think we need to assess the jodphur situation before making hasty comments we might regret later. Photos might help us decide.

Mrs Fred had me construct a simple E shaped 2 bay muck heap out of sleepers so one side is composting while the other is filling, and told the local allotment holders to help themselves once a bay was first filled. They are constantly keeping it emptied now and we receive loads of produce in return as a thank-you. I was surprised how well it composts as it is largely wood shavings.
This is your solution. Have a word with your neighbor and make out your big into recycling and then suggest putting in an E shaped 2 bay muck heap on the hedge boundary on your land but in a position your happy with away from your shed. Make the E bay with 2 gates so when one is full and composted you then invite the local allotment crowd to take away and charge them 25 a cubic metre for the lovely well rotted manure. Neighbor will appreciate your offer and might even throw in a few beers.
