Hours versus wear and tear

Hi ,
I've been an looked at a massey 6265 today 13000 hours.
Very tidy unit but the high hours worry me. I am on a budget of 18k and the the smaller units I've looked at so for that price have been abused and I think that worries me more.
What do folks think about high hours versus high abuse?

Both going to cost something in repairs. Personally I’d go high hours, probably been well looked after. I bought my contractor’s tractor with 15k hours as I knew he looked after it. Sod’s law intervened a short time later when the engine went! Luckily a replacement engine was sourced at low cost from a scrapped bus, coincidentally owned by the former tractor’s driver! Tractor now on 22.5k hours, had a pto clutch pack and a short drive shaft the splines had worn away, but has been cheap and reliable.
Oh, forgot to say I only paid £5k for it!

Problem is they want 18k for this one 🤔

The problem is the price of tractors in general, there really isn't much about with loader on it the 18k I have to spend.
Would rather a massey as I can get work done locally. Emyr Evans has a 4355 at 14.5k with a 18x6 gearbox, not sure if its 40k no shuttle
Pugh have one but at 15.5k but 30k and mech shuttle
Mark weatherhead has the 6265 at 17.5 with 13000hrs but tidy.
Thats all I've found lately.

Ts115 with loader on ebay for £18k. I know nothing about it hours wise but I know the engines are good

The other way of looking at it is yes the 6265 is too dear but even then what's the most you will lose on it? £6k?

I bought a mint 6265 a year or two ago with 4000hrs on it for 17k. If you're not in a panic for a tractor sooner or later you find the one you really want if you keep an eye out. Panic buying in my experience was always a mistake. Also a tractor that comes with a loader will have extra wear compared to one without a loader

They have history and it hasn't always had a loader on. The loader is maybe 6 years old, doesn't look like its had to much work. Pins all look tight joystick looks hardly used.
Apparently had loader on when it was dropped back to 2nd string

Not sure what this costs:

Couple more potentials here:

A good 40 series NH is still a good tractor. I've got one on 11k hours and it will do another 11k if it needed to. Still pretty fresh and cheap to maintain
Can't say I've had any experience with fords or new hollands we've always had masseys mainly because that what the local boys deal.

Going by the photos the 6265 isn’t that tidy, galvanised tin stuck to wings, no front mudguards, old mallieux loader, narrow tyres, certainly wouldnt be paying anywhere near 18k, be nearer 10,500-11.

Does anyone know anything about the dealer?

Yes. Renowned for buying stuff at auctions then selling it all on EBay. Fair chap, but make sure you go and look at it before you buy.
I bought a Krone mower from him last year, which he didn’t want to part with until he and his brother had put 50 acres through it himself. The reason being that its main gearbox had been suspiciously repainted.
I needed it in a hurry and we agreed that I’d give him a deposit, then take it and do 50 acres before paying the balance.
It did 25 acres before that gearbox burned all that new paint off it!
He immediately offered to give me my deposit back and return it to him. But we decided between us that the rest of it looked so good, that we would find out what it would cost to repair and if reasonable, knock it off the balance. In fact we got Krone to fix it and Terry Reeves was very reasonable about and agreed the outstanding balance owed to him, less Krone’s repair invoice.

It turned out that some cowboy had used an incorrect bearing in a former gearbox repair and it ended up taking a couple of other bearings and gears with it. After the Krone fix, I’m chuffed to bits with it and we even ended up selling a couple of other surplus machinery items to Terry since.

Good chap, but as I say, I recommend going to visit this yard to seriously look at the kit he is selling. If you get on well with Terry, he will look after you. He knows all the good and bad parts of all the kit he has for sale. He is also good if you are looking for something. He will try hard to find it for you.

Krone did such a good job with the mower repairs, that I ended up buying a brand new Round baler from them this year.
They now have a new depot at Enstone, near me and their staff are all top notch!
I have come to love Krone equipment. I’d describe it as being typically built like a German sh!t house.

It actually looks better in person than on photos new rear tyres , the rear mudguards are new fibre glass ones. Loader is older but clean tight and seems to work well.
I thought similar about the price myself just didn't want to disregard it without input from those who know better than me. If it was 10k or 11k it would be in the yard right now I think but st 17k I thought it was strong money

the shuttles on these are not the most reliable for loader work.
